Chris Moore, 21, a USM student council senator, sacrificed a day of his spring break to observe the proceedings in Jackson.
"Professors have been stopping us in the hall asking why the student government hasn't issued a statement of support,'' Moore said. "The answer is, we don't have all the facts and neither did the students who signed the petition.''
As reporters zoomed in on Moore, he smiled ruefully.
"Maybe this will be good practice for politics in the real world,'' the USM student said.
Of the professors that were there, I don't know one that would've asked him that.
Forgive me but isn't the SGA designed to represent their fellow students, not criticize their efforts to be involved in issues that affect them. In the "real world" his constituents probably won't appreciate his attempts to demean their efforts to be politically active.
Isn't this the same Chris Moore who sponsored the SGA resolution in support of Dvorak, and who said "who cares what she said on her resume about being a tenured english prof at Kentucky, we hired her to be a VP not a faculty member..."?
I saw Moore's shifty countenance...though he never spoke to any of his constituents. He did say "excuse me" as he made his way down the crowded hallway once.
The SGA has gone from a somewhat marginal organization on campus to a completely irrelevant one. Moore and Speigener are a big part of the reason for this lowly transition.
I certainly think an effort should be made to institute impeachment proceedings against student government persons for ignoring their constituents. Also, I believe that a new petition should be circulated to force a referendum for the students to vote their confidence in the Thames administration. Does anyone know how to accomplish either?
