I am sure Thames is betting that Spring Break will dampen the student's zeal for speaking out. Does anyone know if another student protest is in the works?
Since the AP is now carrying the story internationally, any more protests will likely end up with a wide array of media coverage. A good way to keep the heat on Thames.
I don't know about protests but there is a USM chapter of the ACLU reorganization in the works. There was a chapter of the ACLU on USM campus in 1975 but it has been dormant for a long while. I think that it's about time to get it going again.
The ACLU is coming back. That's great news. Shelby has counted on a lot of things - let's hope the student, staff and faculty's return to campus causes him to have a reality break (if it's at all possible)
If anyone is interested in joining the USM chapter of the ACLU, we will be meeting on Thursday, March 25 at 6:30 pm at Javawerks on Hardy Street (across from the Dome). Please get the message out to all those who are interested.
How about at the USM Founder's Day Celebration onTuesday, March 30, 2004, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on the north lawn of the Aubrey K. Lucas Administration Building, with an open reception starting at 3:30 p.m.
As reported in the Clarion Ledger today(March 23, 2004), a demonstration is being planned for April 6 to coincide with the honors forum speech by the national prez of the ACLU, Nadine Strossen. It's to begin at about 5:30 on the lawn in front of Bennett auditorium (behind the dome). If anyone hears of anything else in the works, post it and I'll be there.
