Someone sent me an anonymous email about the new VP for Finance (or Chief Financial Officer) at USM, Gregg Lassen. Apparently, the guy doesn't even have a PhD (in fact, he is a current doctoral candidate at USM in International Development). Isn't that an EXTREME conflict of interest???? But he does have a JD...another lawyer in the Thames Cabal! Here's the URL for the PR release on him:
My former suite mate was a student worker in the dome. She said Gregg Lassen was the Assistant Provost (under Associate Provost Cynthia Moore) when he was hired as the VP for Finance. If you read the press release in the original post here, it doesn't mention that fact. It makes it sound as he came from "far away," masking the fact that they did not do a national search to fill the position. I heard yesterday that Linda McFall left the job because of all the unethical (and perhaps illegal) things that she was being requested to engage in.
Oh, and if you read closely (esp. the part about Gregg Lassen being a DOCTORAL CANDIDATE at USM in International Development), you can tell that there was no national search. I think this is an EXTREME conflict of interest...having the CFO of a university also be a DOCTORAL CANDIDATE???? What gives????
Someone with more time than me needs to look into this!!
Folks, there are far worse examples to go after! I know this individually personally and he is quality - excellent academic and professional credentials. I don't disagree about the process issues. There should have been a search but when the rot at the top of administration is removed, we may find that this guy is a "keeper"!
An MBA and a JD are not excellent academic credentials for his position at a tier 3 national university. His only academic experience is as an Associate Graduate Business Dean for the University of Phoenix (the Internet University). You may know him as a nice guy, but let me assure you he wouldn't have passed the muster of an honestly done national search.
