"Since the president will not talk to us, we are trying to find a way to communicate with him and the only way we can speak to him appears to be through the media," Henry said.
Neither Thames nor university spokeswoman Lisa Mader could be reached for comment.
Henry said the letter comes on the heels of Thames' decision to cancel a regular monthly meeting with the Faculty Senate executive committee.
"I got a phone call and was told that future meetings with the president would not be a good idea at this time," Henry said.
Where is the outrage over this??? A president who cannot even sit down and talk to his faculty cannot lead his university. Shelby needs to go now.
You gotta love Myron Henry. He's taking on this adminstration with gusto. He, Glamser, Polk, Stringer, McMillen, Chambers, and oh so many others are patriots in the battle against King Shelby.
Two thumbs up for each of them.
Truth, do you remember that article recently in which King Shelby said that anyone who wished to discuss the crisis should "stop by my office" and chat with him?
So...do you think he meant that?
IMO, when King Shelby goes, the rest of his court needs to go, too. Mader is inept--remember the press conference in which Thames LIED about Chambers, and Chambers called him on it, and the embarrassed Thames turned to Mader and asked where she got the info, and she said, "From a student." Pitiful!
....this ends my rant for the day.

Yep, causing conflict and then running from it. Chicken.

This, in itself, speaks volume's about the President's "leadership ability." One does not impose change, especially significant change, on employees...especially a group of well-educated professionals. Employees must be involved in changed, convinced of the need for change, involved in determining the type of change needed, and also for implementing it. Even if we assume for the sake of argument that Thame's decisions about eliminating colleges, etc. were correct, implementing the change was a disaster. I'm amused by those posts and emails suggesting that he's an effective leader.

FS, it was from a campus-wide email that Shelby sent out on March 11 (a day after the no-confidence vote). I have the complete email (if anyone is interested), but here are the salient sentences:
"At The University of Southern Mississippi, we celebrate and encourage open, honest debate, engagement, participation and constructive conversations. These are the hallmarks of an educational institution and a free society - values that we as Americans hold dear; values that as a scientist, teacher and administrator I have spent my life advancing.
My door is open and I want to visit with as many people as I possibly can. Please feel free to e-mail me or stop by my office. I want to share everythingI can with you within my legal limits."
So, my question is this: he taunts the professors for not wanting an 'open hearing,' yet he will not meet with the executive committee of the Faculty Senate to engage in open discussions? Does anyone else see the irony here? I can see another letter to the editor taking shape here...
