I just wanted to create a thread for Shelby-sightings. Does anyone know when he gets back from his vacation in TX? We know that it won't be back at least until after tomorrow (as reported by various news sources).
I really do think that the College Board has shut him up. My prediction is that they are going to "ask Shelby to step down" soon, and install Tim Hudson as Interim President. The question is: will he go "gentle into that good night?" And will the Dvoraks and Hanburys quietly follow him out of the Dome?
If for some glorious reason Shebly and Co. steps down, will it be immediate or will they wait until the end of the semester as not to distrupt their prize possession--the students.

I disagree. Tim Hudson is a politically savvy guy. He wouldn't have fired 2 tenured professors with no input from his administration, that's for sure. He understands more about how a university is supposed to be run than Thames.
I don't disagree with politically savvy. I understand that this choice would meet the stated goals of this website - to oust Shelby and reinstate Drs. Glamser and Stringer. There will simply be a price to pay if this decision is made that people are too near-sighted to see right now. I am going to respectfully disagree with you and leave it at that. Good luck.
Is Shelby perhaps ill? Remember he was hospitalized for tests a while back. (Was it the summer he became president?) He claims to have been ill in December and January, and thus unable to deal with the package of materials about Dvorak that Glamser gave him. Now he's "vacationing" in Texas during the biggest crisis the University has faced. There are lots of very fine hospitals in Texas, folks.
May I suggest that Shelby consider resigning due to "health reasons" to not loose face?

I think that's wishful thinking. Either that or I want some of what you've been smoking.
My prediction remains that Thames is not going to be removed from office before his contract expires. He is doing exactly what he was hired to do: assault the tenure system & cut USM back down to size relative to State & Ole Miss. Don't be surprised if he gets a pay raise...

Yes, thanks for your respectful disagreement (I appreciate those who understand that people can respectfully disagree!). Time will tell (if this even happens, of course) if this is a good move for USM. Right now, almost anyone else is better than Thames as president, unfortunately.
Shelby was sighted by several students on the evening of Friday, April 2 munching out at the Mandarin House Chinese Restaurant in Hattiesburg. No word on if he was accompanied by an entourage.

That may be true, but he has been in bed with them a long time. I think he is more aware of the need to appear ethical than many other of the upper administration, but I am not sure I have a deep sense of trust in his actual commitment to ethical behavior. Better than Shelby? by a long shot, but I would love to see the University with a true leader in charge, one whose ethics are unquestioned, who understands the big picture of a higher educational institution, one who IS educatated in the broad sense, and who is ready for a huge rebuilding challenge.
I agree with foot soldier. I think that Shelby will be asked by the College Board to step down, but the public will be told he is voluntarily doing so due to health reasons. It will not happen too close to the Hearings, etc., probably more like August?? You know how things are done in the Deep South..... God forbid we tell it like it is!
