This from the 4/1/04 edition (http://www.printz.usm.edu/) of The Student Printz regarding Walt Cain's comments at Founder's Day:
"Before the crowd which included State Auditor Phil Bryant and Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree, Cain said that he stood on the third side of the current campus controversy surrounding the March 5 suspensions of English professor Gary Stringer and sociology professor Frank Glamser.
"I stand on the third side, the most important side, and that is the side that has all too often been over looked," he said. "I am in favor of the solution that seeks to promote perpetual student education.""
What kind of political double-speak (or should we say "triple-speak") is this? Can anyone comment on what "perpetual student education" means?
What a smartass! Is that not the point of a university, we are all for student education. Maybe Walt should educate himself on this & quit letting Shelby educate him.
Cain campaign slogan was "Raise Cain."
I guess he already needs to be reminded of that promise. He needs to get off that fence and start 'raising some cain.'
I've heard many complaints from students about Cain's speech at Founders' Day and general SGA attitudes regarding the Glamser/Stringer issue. I wouldn't be surprised if some protesting students have signs next Tuesday saying "Raze Cain".

Wow. I was casting about, trying to think of something poignant to put on my sign and BAM! there it was.
