Any truth to the Hudson rumor?
Permalink Closed

Someone posted here that Hudson was either looking at Texas Pan Am or had already visited--that he had applied for provost at TPA.

Has anyone been able to verify this?

not likely - at least that he would get it. Historically Hispanic University with a history of Hispanic Administration.

Hudson speaks Spanish and has worked in Latin America. He is also a frequent visitor to Spain and has educational contacts there.

I've heard that Hudson has been cut out of the loop in the Dome due to his statements to the media, and that they are in lock-down mode (Shelby, Angie, Mark, Jack, Lisa, and Cynthia Moore).  This means Hudson only has a few options:

1.  Hope that Shelby gets fired or resigns, and that he (Hudson) will be the presumptive interim president (and possible permanent replacement).

2.  Look for employment elsewhere (i.e. UT Pan Am).

3.  Quietly go back to faculty status in June once his contract as Provost is up (yes, folks, he's on a contract!), if Shelby is still prez then.

Hudson has been noted smiling at the protestors and personally speaking to them at both the IHL board meeting and the Founder's Day demonstration.  I think he, more than anyone else, wants to see Shelby out of there.

Even if Hudson's contract weren't about to expire, he would not have much of a future as Provost.

If Shelby Thames retains power after the April 28th/29th hearings, he'll want rid of Hudson.

If Thames is fired, or forced into retirement, the next President will want his or her own Provost. At best, Hudson could hang around for a year while USM is under an interim president.

The term in office of a Provost is about the same as the term in office of a President (the average is around 4 years). Presidents don't have time to run the day to day academic business, so they want "their guy" in the Academic Affairs role.
