Response to Gulfport City Council
Permalink Closed

Gulfport's City Council made an unwise decision in supporting USM President Shelby Thames.  The people who know Thames the best -- the USM faculty -- have resoundingly voted "no confidence" in his administration.  Faculty want a good president; Thames has proven repeatedly that the only thing he does well as President is destroy morale and ruin USM's nationwide reputation.  Now the Gulfport Council are making themselves look like lapdogs.  It will be a long time before I visit Gulfport again, and I will urge family and friends to stay away, too.

Here's the address to which members of this board can submit responses to the Council's action if they wish to:

Here's the address of the Gulfport chamber of commerce, to which I am sending a copy of my letter:

From the issues that I have seen the Gulfport City Counsel vote on, this doesn't suprise me a bit.  Look up their votes on gay marriage and other issues....

Limit is 70 words for the Sun Herald's "Sound Off."

Here's the Sound Off I just emailed:

For years I've brought my family to Gulfport for minivacations several times each year. On each trip, I spend 500-1000 dollars at local businesses. Since the Gulfport City Council has passed a resolution supporting Shelby Thames, I'll no longer visit Gulfport, and I'll advise my family, friends, and associates to stay away.  There are many places in the state that don't seek to discourage visitors.  We'll start visiting and spending our money with them instead.
