Babbs, thank you for this great service you are providing to the USM community. Do you want me to pin these to the top of the page? Each day when you have a new list, I can unpin the old one and pin the new one.
The downside of pinning messages to the top of the page is that people tend to ignore them.

If you think the list might get ignored, then don't pen since I get much of the info from people responding in the string. Thanks for everything (and for offering).

You're quite welcome.
REQUEST FOR EVERYONE WHO READS THIS THREAD:
PLEASE HELP KEEP THIS THREAD KICKED TO THE TOP SO THAT EVERYONE WILL SEE IT. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THREADS IN THIS FORUM. EACH DAY, WHEN BABBS POSTS THE DEPARTURES LIST, LET'S KEEP IT KICKED.
Terry Kinney's wife is also a casualty of the Thames administration. She was doing an excellent job teaching in Child and Family Studies, where she was one of the most qualified persons who could teach Child Life. She got the boot because he got the boot. She was hired as a one-year-only, then I think interviewed for the job and was very well qualified, but it was no dice.
This thread is yet another example of rumor mongering and misinformation. Do you really believe that all of these people left/retired because of the present administration? Some of these people have not left at all. Many left for reasons totally unrelated to current issues. Most of the retirees had planned their retirement for a long time.
In a university this big, people are always going to be leaving/retiring for perfectly "normal" reasons. You people are grasping at straws here.
"In the Know" is correct that some of these people did not leave because of the Thames situation. However, for every person who should NOT be on the list, I believe there are two - or ten - who SHOULD be on the list but are not. There are lots of instructors and staffers who left quietly in the hopes we could come back someday, or who need good recommendations, or have other reasons for not burning bridges. And where is Bud Kirkpatrick's name on this list? Some people said he was past ready to retire, but he was treated disgracefully.
These are indeed troubling departures. Educator, I know that your quip about Dr. Richmond is in jest - he was one of CICE's best scholars; he was always willing to work with doctoral students and was one of the most knowledgeable profs in the department. He will be sorely missed, as will all the others on your list.

When I refer to "lost" I refer to all 3 people - I did not mean to be hurtful about one of my greatest mentors. All 3 have passed away in a span of the last year or so.

These people left around the time of the search for a new President - many left after he was named and the fallout began.

Hey I think I just posted the above. Sorry to build confusion upon more confusion. I wish I had gotten to know John and Ada better, but I worked on many projects with Jesse - he was a terrific Faculty Senate President - a person who believed in ethical behavior and practiced that.
Normal faculty attrition for USM is about 50-60 a year. That is where State and Ole Miss fell last year. USM was over 90, about 50% above normal. The devastation in the nursing program can be directly attributed to reorganization. Moving CJ to Science was another misstep.

Perhaps some of the retirements were already planned. But that doesn't mean that the current situation hasn't pushed many people into deciding to retire. I personally know several people who were not planning on retiring for a while, but are now considering it much more seriously. I think in the next month or two, the list above is going to get much longer. Many people are only now considering job offers elsewhere.
The mass exodus from this place is pretty clear to anyone willing to look.
