April 28-29, 2004 < dates of the suspension appeal hearings for professors Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer, who are represented by Mike Adelman. Shelby Thames’ arguments and solid grounds are presented by Jackson attorney Jim Keith, while former Supreme Court Justice Reuben Anderson presides (and send an opinion to the IHL Board). Finally, the UAC also forwards an opinion to the IHL Board along with one from Shelby Thames.

Sulentic, Mary < 1. former assistant professor in CISE; 2. well-qualified, product of a national job search; 3. professional threat to Dana Thames; 4. quietly left USM after mistreatment at hands of department chair, but not before putting into action: "type in ‘c: format’ then press ‘Enter’".

TPD < 1. Thames Police Detachment; 2. small detail of USM police officers that escorts Shelby Thames to high-level administrative meetings and other campus wide activities.

25% & 0% < representation of African-Americans in the USM student body and in upper levels of the Thames administration, respectively.

Webroot Spysweeper 2.0 < 1. software that protects a computer from common forms of spyware programs, including Trojans, system monitors, keyloggers and adware. Automatically updates spyware definitions to provide immediate protection from the latest threats (see iTech); 2. only $29.99 at bestbuy.com (online electronics store).

Wiest, Andy < 1. professor of history at USM; 2. describes himself as conciliatory vis-a-vis the Thames administration early on, in fact, once convincing the Faculty Senate to table an early "no confidence" vote; 3. has since criticized the Thames administration, noting that the possibilities for USM experiences like those he has had over his lifetime are slipping away from future generations of students, maybe even for his own two children; 4. spoke out in favor of a "no confidence" vote at the March 2004 faculty convocation.

Webster - Melissa Whiting is also a product of a national job search.  Don't want to overemphasize her importance, but if you can add it - it's important. She's also the first person in line to collect on this Thames Sham.

thanks for the note.  sometimes I have an oversight on these.  check the new master list, T thru Z, and you'll see the revised Whiting entry there.

I have no doubt she was badly treated, but I meant, please tell me it's true that she really formatted her hard drive before she left.  What a delicious image.

What do you mean when you say "formatted her hard drive before she left"?  Heard she was on campus serving as a member of a doctoral committee just this past week.

I may have misundersood webster's comment.  When you go out to the c: prompt and type in "format" and hit enter (in the old, old days of DOS) it erased everything on the hard-drive.  Possibly webster was not being literal?  But the notion sort of tickles my inner rebel, and is the fantasy of many an abused employee.

Dear former staffer---

I believe she did reformat her hard drive before she left.  There have been several discussions on this board about it.  Apparently when she left Dana & Company scrambled into her office to check out her hard drive and there was nothing there.  She left right about the time rumors started circulated about the Thames machine looking closely at hard drives, spying, etc.

Yes - she did that. When Dana went into her room to change the locks and lock up MMS's "stuff" - she entered an empty room with an empty computer. On the outside of the office it looked like business as usual, but the business was GONE on the inside!! Great story.
