The Chronicle of Higher Education's Jobs section currently lists an opening for an Assistant Dean of Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. After reading all of the posts on this website about NCATE concerns, it is not difficult to understand the need for such a position. My question, however, has to do with the "efficiency" plan presented during the reorganization of 2003. Weren't assistant deans' positions eliminated and wasn't the new organizational structure of each college to have a dean and an associate dean or an assistant dean, but not both?
The COEP just named a dean (who had been interim dean) and there was an associate dean who has stepped down from that poisiton I think allowing for the hiring of an assistant or associate dean
