Question about IHL members

Does anyone on the board have any thoughts about these departures and these possible arrivals?  Is it good/bad that some of these folks are leaving?  Is it good/bad that some of these other folks may be arriving?  Any advice on how best to make the case to the new IHL board?  Are there particular points that should/should not be stressed in letters to them?  Thanks for any thoughts!

Governor Haley Barbour is expected to announce his four new appointees to the State College Board anyday now, possibly as early as Wednesday.

Longtime board members Carl Nicholson, Ricki Garrett, Bill Crawford, and Bryce Griffis will complete their 12 year terms when the college board meets this week.

News Seven has learned that the names most prominently mentioned to fill some of the vacancies include USM graduate Robin Robinson of Laurel, Mississippi State graduate Ed Blakeslee of the coast, and Ole Miss Graduate Aubrey Patterson of Tupelo. Barbour is also expected to appoint a Jackson State Graduate.

IMHO, it's a good thing that these four are rotating off.

Remember: Virginia Newton is the ONLY board member who vocally protested Shelby being hired.  She has been the only true advocate for USM.  If we were losing her, I would be distraught.

Any new blood has to be better than the ones leaving.  Carl Nicholson?  I am GLAD he is gone.  And isn't the woman who is leaving (can't remember her name as I type) the one who asked Shelby if he was a "bootyologist?"  He said "no" and everyone dropped the ball--they accepted his answer instead of looking into allegations of misappropriation of funds and, uh, misuse of university staff.

I had heard that Bob Mixon and Jim Payne were being considered, yet their names are not in the list that WDAM mentioned last night on the news.

There is an old adage about the possibility that the evil that one knows not being as bad as the evil that one does not know.  At this point, however, I can't imagine the four new members being any worse than the four rotating off, unless, somehow, Billy Hewes' name is on the list of incoming.  Can't see that happening, though.
