Having been very close to all of this and having taught at five other institutions -- the short answer is NO.
I usually prefer to believe that an in an argument there is shared blame.
But that assumes that both parties want to work things out fairly. In this case, that has never been true. For instance, there are many ways to remove people from a job. Public humiliation, locking people out of their offices (which happened before Stringer and Glamser), removing people within months of retirement -- these are not the way things are done at the academy. You do not throw people out on their hind ends after years of service and not say thank you for their years of service. You do not encourage the public to believe that your professors are lazy even though they are carrying the highest teaching ratios in the state. There are decencies that are pre-requisite to a collaborative relationship and this administration doesn't waste its time on them.
There never has been a relationship between Thames and the faculty. He just does what he wishes without consulting anyone -- faculty, staff, or students. The only options are to react or not react.
