Dear Miss XXXXXXX, You have been a very bad girl the past couple of months. I have been monitoring your computer and have noticed that you have been trying to rally people for the cause of destroying Dr. Thames's name as our great President at our university. We are lucky to have him as our president you should be ashamed of your behavior. for this you have recieved a virus. you are welcome!! If you recieve an e-mail like this one it is a hoax, do not be alarmed. It is just another example of the mentality of Shalby supporters!
That is so ridiculous. I haven't gotten one, even though I'm on a couple of list-serves, and I haven't heard of anyone but you getting one either. Hopefully this was a friend playing a (bad) practical joke on you. I'll keep my ears open just in case more people got that e-mail.
Was there an actual virus attachment? (Yahoo mail indicates virus removal, IIRC.) Probably it's a bad practical joke. But practical jokes probably wouldn't have an actual payload.

First, lemuria.org is a hacker site.
With a little Googling, I've found "nox.lemuria.org" on a list of Cypherpunk anonymous remailers. What this means is that your email was relayed through a system that strips all return addressing off the message, rendering it "anonymous."
Most outfits that run "mixmaster" mail services will cite a few legitimate reasons (e.g., posts to Alcoholics Anonymous mailing lists) as support for providing a service that is used most of the time for intimidation, spamming, or other criminal activity.
tom@lemuria.org probably cannot & will not provide any details about who really sent the message.
If there was actually a virus payload attached to the email, then it would be classified as "terrorism" under the Patriotic Act, IIRC...
