Update from the Concerned Students:

The main issue we discussed was graduation. We are going to encourage everyone who is on the board to wear a "No Quarter" sticker on their motorboard. This way, there is no destruction of property, and the audience will be able to see them loud and clear.

Also, anyone who is not graduating but wants to make a statement is encouraged to wear the "No Quarter" tshirts to the ceremony at 6:30. Haley Barbour will be speaking, so there will be lots of press there.

Tentative plans for the summer were discussed, but the meeting did not produce anything firm because so many people were unable to make it. School work had to come first!!!

We will keep you posted. A few of the original members are graduating, but that doesn't mean that we're done yet! So, any of the students who post on this board interested???

Was there any discussion of the intrusive nature of Thames reading student email?

Every student on campus should be concerned about this.

we've discussed that several times, but haven't come up with a concrete plan of action. again, school is coming fist for another week or so.

However, we haven't forgotten about it, either. We've discussed an "alternate student government" before, so we'll let everyone know if we can get that together. As a  non-traditional student, I've long thought that the SGA was out of touch with my concerns (Ie free daycare on campus, better married student housing, etc.) Don't know how much clout we'll have with the administration, but it would be something to work for those of us who feel "left out" by the current system.

If nothing else, it would bug the s*** out of Walt Cain and Shelboo.

Just a thought.  You probably shouldn't put the sticker on until after you are seated.  It will be a lot harder to remove students already seated than to simply not let them sit down from the beginning.  Chances are, people will be looking to exclude anyone wearing or displaying anti-Thames messages.

I just had a funny mental image of Thames demanding that a student bow their head low enough for him to see what is on their cap...lol

Just let them try to remove a graduating senior. Think of the bad press.

You can hide a lot under those robes, folks. Buttons, stickers, posters, banners, etc. What are they going to do? Frisk the entire class of '04?

How about an Alternative Student Government Assn fashioned after Thames' University Council. You could appoint exactly who you wanted as members!
That could speak volumes, use his exact language in your description.

Instead of meeting in person, do you think we could accomodate more people by meeting in a chatroom

Are you refering to the Conerned Students? I don't think that would be a problem, but some us are not so good typists :)

That's an idea that I hadn't thought about. Anyone else interested??

You're right, although I don't think that they can bar you from being seated. I know other graduations, people have written/stickered their hats. We will make up the stickers this weekend, and pass them along to the graduates next week. Pass the word around to all your graduating friends/students!

I am not, but many people, while not scared of Thames, would rather be heard and not seen.

I'd be happy to host the chatroom on one of my sites.  I'll email Fire Shelby to see about setting something up.

Best to just set it up through the message board.  I am going to be tied up the next couple of days.
