If this is true - then we may see a little justice come out of this after all. Hang in there Faculty and staff - Me and my friends are pulling for you and a NEW ADMINISTRATION!
I'm too scared to hope for anything to come out of this...how could it be if Roy Klumb is in charge? Or is he in charge yet? Someone please post what happens on the 6pm news, esp. for those of us who are far away!

Could it be that news of the Hack Hanbury memo pi$$ed them off? That's the only thing that's happened in the last few days that could've turned the tide.

We don't know what they have been considering.
As I have said before, Shelby's testimony at the hearing was EXTREMELY damaging to his integrity.
They might have been talking amongst themselves about this after each of them saw it.
The agreement had to do with the profs' employment status, not Shelby's.
Like I said before, though, surely they would later consider Thames' testimony and the destruction he has wrought on USM.
Let's hope that VSNewton has been telephoning IHL trustees and presenting to them a very persuasive argument as to why Shelby should be removed.
Or this might have to do with Hanbury...perhaps it's him.
But if it is Hanbury, Shelby can't be long to follow, since he has staked his whole presidency on his hatchetman's investigation.

Those of us at other MS universities can only hope you are correct. That would be a tremendous result...
I couldn't access WUSM last Wednesday, so (now that papers and finals are graded) I've been listening to Shelby Thames' testimony from the hearing on streaming audio.
I've gotten halfway through now, and even after seeing all the excellent summaries on the message board last Wednesay, I'm still dumbfounded by some of the lies and absurdities in his testimony.
How could the Board expect anything but further public embarrassment from him and his operatives?

I am considering it a rumor, too. But it came from a pretty good source. Campus is abuzz with it.
Karma says that something good should come our way. We have suffered too much. It's time we see a little justice. I am praying.
1) a party to the settlement violated a part of the agreement, or
2) Klumb's statements that G&S commited criminal acts makes the IHL wonder why charges were not filed with local DA as required in an earlier post re IHL guidelines.

Thanks for the info.
If this proves to be a false alarm, I offer each of you a huge apology.

I just spoke with several people on campus; all had heard the news through different sources, and none from this message board. Everyone is waiting on the 6PM news.

Don't know how this relates to the original rumor, but there is a meeting scheduled tomorrow for new IHL members.
Just checked the WDAM website - no info on an IHL meeting, but there is a blurb about the new "council" formed today. Is it possible that this was the impetus of the rumor?

I don't think so. I have been tossing around another idea--could it have been a meeting with Hood, instead of IHL?

I don't know how to find out, either. I'm too far away!!! However, my original thought was that the rumor centered around watching WDAM at 6:00 PM for some type of major news. The only news I could find on their site was the blurb about the new "council."
Here's hoping against hope that there will be a last minute, late-breaking story that Thames is leaving!!!

I am changing my hopes--more realistically, I think it is going to be the hatchetman.
as best as I can gather from WDAM at 6:00, the board is debating whether to meet about shelby before the new people come on board saturday. the chair (Colbert) is not disposed to do so.

Let's hope that they have the votes to override him, if that's the way he feels.
Are you currently watching the broadcast? I don't get it where I am.
yes, i'm watching. they also had a quotation from virginia shanteau-newton saying, as she has for a while, that she's concerned about the situation at usm.

Wonderful!!!
If you can, try to get a verbatum transcript (or as close as possible!) so that those of us who are far away can read it here!

USM alum, I think iddad is right in that Colbert doesn't sound disposed to have a meeting. My take is Ricki Garrett is starting to get distressed about her legacy on the Board now. Well, it's a little too late for that. It seems to late for a meeting now given that Klumb takes over in a few days.
The College Board may be considering another special meeting. A spokesperson for the board says there have been discussions of holding a meeting in the next few days, but outgoing board President Thomas Colbert has not called one.
Despite the recent settlement between university President Shelby Thames and professors Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer, tensions continue to run high between the administration and faculty, particularly in light of the recent e-mail from risk manager Jack Hanbury to the university's five deans.
As we reported Monday, Hanbury accused some of gross insubordination for reportedly replying to a Faculty Senate request for pay raise information.
Sources tell News 7 that several board members want one more opportunity to discuss what's going on at Southern Miss before four new members take office this Saturday.
Late Wednesday, College Board member Virginia Newton of Gulfport told News 7: "I remain deeply troubled about the worsening situation at USM and the low morale of the faculty, staff, and students. The future of the university is at stake and I am commited to resolving the current crisis."
God Bless You, Virginia Newton!!!

You may very well be right. I am just thankful that we have Virginia on our side.

Ok, rumor clarification: Shelby is supposed to be on standby; board is expected to meet in the next two days. It will be about his job as president, from what I am hearing.
i do think it is interesting, and encouraging, that the board is even considering an emergency meeting. i have a suspicion that hanberry's e-mail to the deans was something they couldn't ignore.
It seems to be the time to call, email IHL and request the meeting. Reiterate the distress and that it is not going away and Klumb will only make it worse. We need action NOW!
