Just thought I'd check back in, and gloat a bit to see where we are. Uh, Thames riding high in the saddle, more than ever, Deans put in their places, and two possible crimminals no longer able to teach our wonderful children. The judge was indeed very fair and he did his job. He spared G/S any possible crimminal action, and Mr. Klumb was referring to that. So, get real.
I see the good will of such mighty men of reason like Mr. Klinepeter of Petal (HA today), the wonderful businessman Bud Holmes, the honorable Ron Farris, Deborah Dennard, and other businessmen like Robert St. John (thanks Robert for taking a stand against the commies), has finally WON. The win is permanent, it will not be vanquished. This board is way off course, and the sad part is that you cannot see it, you are blinded.
When I saw that silly charade of a post with the false rumor of some "emergency IHL meeting", I could hear dear Fire Shelby's lungs expire.
There ain't no emergency meeting today, and the one on the WDAM news is a wimpy attempt by USM's lone duck, Jenny, to salavage some face. What a loser compared to Klumb.
Roy Klumb, a man among men, was right on tv Sunday nite. Did you hear what he said? You see what is coming now when he so ably takes the reins over. It will be a sad day for this board Mr. Fire Shelby.
The IHL is solidly behind Thames and Thames is in USM's future until the day he decides to turn the mantle over to another businessman. By that time, hopefully, he will have fired most of the neer do wells on this board, the lazy profs, and any rogue administrators who refuse to tow the Thames line. Loyalty Hattiesburg has come to town to stay and will be this way from now on.
We have our "turtle." The turtle is going to bite all of you on your rear hineys.
That line WILL be towed and you can forget the governor, the IHL, or the honorable Attorney General even slapping our man on the wrist. They are all, each and every one of them, in lockstep with Roy and the board. It will not change, Virginia's ridiculous last minute histronics to the contrary. We will rule.
Do any of you weak, powerless, neer-do-wells have ANY idea the caliber of business and poltical powerhouses who were at Shelby's party Sat. nite? What have you on this board? A poet? Maybe he or she can write 10,000 pages of (&*^% about 200 measly poems by someone who couldn't run a business if he it hit him in the head. A sociologist? What the heck do we need them for? That is all going down people, all going down.
Of course you don't know who was a Shelby's party. They drive BMWs and talk with Mr. Hood, you drive Kias and drink "lattees." These men are committed to putting Southern Miss to the top in grand corporate fashion (I'm tearing up here, sorry).
Oh, if any of you weak limbed anti-Thames ilk have some smoldering hope that the so called "emergency meeting of the IHL", reported on the WDAM news today, is going to matter.........forget it.
No way. That is a lame attempt by your pathetic USM sympathizer, Mrs. Jenny, to try to do something before our man Roy takes over the reins. She has little support and it is a lame duck effort. It will fail. With the new board members, and even USM's (hardee har har), Thames will rein supreme from now on, untouched and unscathed to bring us his vision of THE super business university for the 21st Century. Many will have to be fired to get there, and now he has a mandate, especially since Roy Klumb, bless him, does not and will not recognize tenure. Get ready for your doors to be locked. It is ok now, remember the hearing?
It sure is going to be lonely on that pro-Thames board for Virginia, she should just quit. We have able leaders in Governor Barbour and Attorney General Hood, who would not allow the least little bit of reprimand for the fine leader Shelby F. Thames that USM and the community is so honored to have steer the magnificent ship to new glory.
I know I irk you in my comments, but I just cannot stand to sit by and keep the truth locked up in my happy soul.
We all need to get behind Shelby F Thames, and do what he says. There is no choice now.
Your man, when given more rope, continues only to hang himself.
His days are numbered.
Is that "taps" I hear playing in the distance?
(By the way, the 6PM news validated the rumor. I still have plenty of air in my lungs, and independent thoughts in my head, unlike you. Gotta run make latte'.)

It's so wonderful to see why a LIBERAL ARTS education, at least rudimentary English, is such a necessity.
What's gonna happen when there are no faculty or students left at USM? The way I read things, about one half to two thirds of the faculty has/is/will be leaving or retiring. Who is going to teach if this trend continues? Who will Thames get to come to USM and teach as more and more prospective professors look into the recent goings on? With no respected researchers at USM, there will be a significant drop in grant monies awarded to the school. What is Thames going to do when all the $$ dries up?
Of course there will students. What is that all about. Most of USM's students "outside" the liberal arts building support SFT. Nasty little secret. Only a few malcontents and protestors care.
We don't need the whining faculty leaving now, who do not want to give a days work for an honest day's pay.
We will have no trouble filling the spots. We are doing fine now, it seems. Classes are taught, student take exams, they walk at graduation. It is no different.
Dr. Thames has said repeatedly that we have to roll up our sleeves and work harder. YOu just want to whine and drink "latte." We can do with 100-200 less faculty and never miss a beat. The faculty will just have to teach more and start using the Internet, like your provost has so ably done.
Remember Shelby's words to the IHL: "No university can be all things to all people."
That is what he is doing, putting the money and resources in the sciences where we are best. We can still do a good job in other areas with fewer faculty doubling up their teaching load and using on line courses. IT WILL HAPPEN!
As to grants, are you crazy Lord JIm? Grants are up over $20,000 under Shelby. Faculty who cannot do research with federal grants are going to fall by the wayside. We are going to the top, and move toward self sufficiency. That industrial park is going to BE USM in the future.
You are rather weak minded. The legislature and the IHL is almost 100% (sorry Jenny) behind this and there is absolutely NOTHING to stop it.
As a faculty member in the College of Science and Technology, I can say that it is not just the liberal arts folks that are very unhappy with the current happenings. In fact, the folks in polymer science are none too happy either. Just get one of them alone and ask them what they really think of how the university is being run.
I find it difficult to believe Shelby's Right is actually serious in what s/he says. It sounds so much like the adolescent taunting of the peers of my teenagers. If Shelby's Right is indeed serious, s/he is one very deluded person. One of my CoST colleagues remarked to me yesterday that they felt like they were living in a third world country the way things were being run at this university. I think that about sums it up.
I am a student in CoST, and will further validify the fact that we are not happy. Indeed, it is not only liberal arts people who are tired of this administration.

Recently a CoST Faculty Senator sent the Senate a saying taught to him when he was young and living in a European communist country. The situation at USM reminded him of it. I believe it went like this:
Don't think If you think, don't talk If you talk, don't write it down, If you write it down, don't sign it If you sign it, DON'T BE SURPRISED.
No, FS, this is NOT satire. I do get a bit carried away.
For those at SFT's party, we know what POWER is.
I am not making satire here.
It is a done deal
It is over.
The legislature, believe me, WANTS this. The IHL, especially under the very able and worthy Mr. Klumb WANTS this. While I have not talked to AG hood, he has nothing to do Virginnie Mae Smiss's desire for some lame duck special meeting. I would be surprised if 7 members showed up. They are tired of this mess, they want to go on, and they have full faith in SFT to clean the mess up. With Hanbury, it will not take too long.
Everyone on here mocks Jack, but the mockers will not have the last laugh. There is not one iota from Jackson or the AG to hold him back. Our local attorneys, whom he accurately labeled as "misguided" were in fact misguided. They are bush league, Hanbury is the real thing, and that I realize scares this board and the whining profs who cannot get their way. I will not use the word "latte" any more, since you consider that to be satire.
This is NOT satire guys.
I promise, I am not biting back. I am off to a local restaruant to meet some friends. We will get a good laugh off this board.

On a serious note, I am sort of parodying some conversations I have had with some local businessmen. It is scary. I took it from them, so in a sense, it is real board. I was gonna fess up, but I got it to going too good."
LOL! I laughed until my ribs were sore at the "it's a 'typo,' idot" line.

Yeah, sort of like Leave it to Beaver.........I was doing too good and then I over did it.
Klinepeter, or any attempt to praise him, would I now see raise any eyebrow, so CITA slipped on that one,but FS was still convinced at that point, I think. Naw, he smelled a satire early on.

I looked and looked through IPs. I couldn't find any match for about 10 minutes. I thought, this guy is for real! So I came back and posted the gilded lock post, and then I looked again...and after looking through IPs the third time, I pegged ya!
(You know, after reading some of the letters to the editors--people comparing Thames' situation to the crucifixion, your posts could have been the real McCoys. )

Yes. Be glad to...and it will be on in just a sec, again, on the 10PM news. IHL is considering calling a meeting to resolve the USM situation before the new board members are seated and Klumb takes the helm. They will have to do it tomorrow or Friday.
The rumor said that IHL was calling an emergency meeting--they haven't yet, but I expect them to.
The rumor said Thames had been called to Jackson--he hasn't yet, but I expect him to be called.
The rumor said to watch the 6PM news--we did, and that is where we learned that all of this is going on.
My source wasn't 100% on target--I'll give him/her about an 80% on this one.
