Greetings FS Posters..I'm in Hattiesburg tonight..

Hello All:

Just flew into Pine Belt Regional a couple of hours ago.  Right now I'm at (hang on while I peek through the window) -- oh yeah, it's Hawthorne Suites.

As you all know I sent an open letter to Angeline Dvorak the other day.  Early this morning I heard from Mark, stating that "Dr. Dvorak" (apparently even he addresses her that way) was not interested in my invitation, nor in speaking to me at this time.  He said they were staying in Hattiesburg to "monitor events on campus" before deciding whether or not "to follow the University's recommendation," whatever that means.

Well, my risk manager, his associate and I hopped a flight from Lansing to Laurel this afternoon.  We stopped off in Memphis and had some barbeque.  We got in about 7:35 this evening.  My risk manager and his associate had dinner with Mr. Gregg Lassen this evening, and I believe they are currently somewhere called "the Hog" having a drink with a Lisa Mader (his associate is a real operator if you know what I mean).  I had a nice dinner at Walnut Circle Grill (nice place, Chilean sea bass) with Mr. Bobby Chain.  He's ****ed by the way.  He showed me some records he has indicating that President Thames hacked into his home computer.

I just wanted you all to know that I'm in town and will be here through late Tuesday afternoon.  I've got several meetings lined up, and I will be reporting in to the board from time to time.  My risk manager and I are going to try and straighten some of this mess out, and get your lives back to normal.  As you know, this mess has ramifications for higher education generally, and my risk manager and I have worked too hard turning Thomas Cooley Law School into a gold mine to have Angeline screw everything up for us.

Tomorrow morning I'm having breakfast at Jody's with Mayor Dupree and Deborah Denard.  I'm am going to present them with a check for $17 million.  That way they can cut Thames loose on the tax proposal for USM expansion.  That plan was floundering until Mayor Dupree jumped on board.  Thus, my plan eliminates the brains of that operation.

I'm having lunch with Mr. Chain and Carl Nicholson.  That's just an ole-fashioned come home to Jesus meeting.  I just called Nicholson and told him he's paying the bill too (206 Front Street I think).  My risk manager will be at that meeting for "moral support," if you know what I mean.

Well let me make a cell call to my RM, and turn in.  I'm tuckered out, and have a big day tomorrow.

Hey Tom!

Why didn't you tell us you were coming we would have sent someone to greet you?

Don't miss the continental breakfast at the Hawthorne. Endless amounts of cold cereal so you can save a buck instead of going to Waffle House (oh . . . . sorry you are a yankee so maybe it will be the IHOP!)

Cheers. And welcome to Hattiesburg.

Let me suggest the Cabot Lodge for your next visit, if such becomes necessary.

They have a free cocktail happy hour in the evening--could Mark and Angie refuse?--and all the stale waffles you can eat for breakfast!

Hope you didn't go through any turbulence on your flight in--you are sure to experience some as you meet with your former students!

But Mr. Cooley, you're not going to see Angie? After having come all that way? You're not even going to initiate a meeting?

TC: Oh Angie, it's been so long.

Angie: Oh Tom, please help me pump my resume.

Which reminds me of a nagging question.  Was Dr. Dvorak ever admitted to the bar anywhere?  I understnad that getting through law school is one thing, and passing the bar is something else.  I have missed some steps here but I don't understand the leaps from Michigan to Jackson TN to Ashland.  And y'all, I'm from West Tennessee and lived in Kentucky for a long time.  Things may have changed, but in my day, Ashland was a big step down from Jackson TN, much less from Michigan.

Getting into many law schools is the easiest part of all - earning your juris doctorate, at many institutions (excluding first tier or second), is easy too. Passing the bar in most states is the true challenge.  States differ, and most lawyers that I know truly have to study for that, but it can be done but some of the most dim witted people in the world seem to manage it.  I do wonder, if in that pumped up resume of AD's, if that tidbit of info is in there.

I just emailed the Michigan State Bar assoc. to see if that is public info. Will keep everyone posted!
