After noticing how fast Hanbury was axed after the public release of his memo (thanks to whoever released that memo), I suggest the quickest, surest path between Shelby the president and Shelby the fat little piggy hitting the road is the release by some staff person or faculty person or administrator of some grotesque document that Shelby had a clear hand in, a nasty little directive of one kind or another, signed by him, on his letterhead, with his fingerprints on, whatever.
Surely there are many unhappy people stuck in this administration, unable to speak their minds for fear of reprisal, who deplore what Thames has done to our pretty good little university, who have in their possession, or have access to, a document that reveals Thames for the crude, small man he is--a person of limited vision, with a huge appetite for vengeance, ready and willing to blame anyone else for his troubles.
Any scrap of paper leaked to the public media will do. Any nasty remark Thames committed to paper, any aside to Hanbury or one of the other piglets in his administration that smacks of unprofessional or illegal conduct, unethical behavior, deal making or brokering, anything that even looks smelly would be good.
Let's get this stuff out into the light where people can see it, where the public and the media can see what kind of man he truly is, and what his administration is like for those who must suffer under it today.
Yes, I'm talking about somebody ratting him out. Ordinarily I would say ratting somebody out is probably not a good thing. But in this case, the end justifies the means.
This scenario may actually be very close to happening.
Hanberry is just the first of many administrators who will be leaving soon. I have to imagine that some of them will not be leaving by choice, an may perhaps want to grind an axe or two as they walk out.
I think that the snakes are about to start committing suicide!

Actually, at least in Donne studies, USM really WAS "world class," as anyone in the field will tell you. My one consolation, when I think about what has happened to Gary Stringer, is that his name will forever be associated with the Donne Variorum, while SFT's name will not be remembered for long, and, when it is, it will be remembered in connection with the current scandals. Just another of the many ironies involved in this case!
In light of Patrick Fagan's accusation in the S-H (on another thread) that some faculty do not teach at---can we find out what Shelby's teaching loads were in the past. Since he was bringing in those big poly-sci grants, I'm sure he wasn't doing his duty to the students of Mississippi and teaching 3 or 4 large freshman courses.

Is it possible to get at this information?"
Shelby for years has been using University equipment and supplies to further his own consulting business in polymer science. He has made more money consulting than he has as a professor. One cannot tell me that all of that consulting time was spent after his professorial duties were completed. Thames always has been an arrogant and intimidating person. Too bad he never found the formula for treating people nice over his years of research. There is an old saying that "When you @#$% on people on the way up the ladder, you might find it slippery on the way down." Let's hope he is on the way down.
At this point, every administrator who reports to Thames, and every staff person who reports to top administrators, should know that he or she could be sacrificed next.
Every leak like the one that brought Hanbury down will further threaten Shelby Thames.
