In all the news coverage, little attention was paid to the conflict of interest between Hanbury and BOTH Dvoraks. Interesting to note that the stories of Hanbury's resignation NOW indicate that he "was a former law partner of Mark Dvorak."
Another aspect found only in the C-L story of the resignation is that Hanbury's salary was under the budget of Angie Dvorak's office -- no wonder why he was such a persistent attack dog for her defense! And, interesting that the American didn't carry this line, nor did WDAM.

Actually, Randy Swan did a great job at 6:00 last evening reviewing the Hanbury/Dvorak relationship. It was not repeated in the 10:00 segement on Hanbury's departure, however.
Do we have a link to the Clarion-Ledger story on Hanbury's dismissal?
I took most of the day off to attend Clemson graduation ceremonies and celebrate--my wife got her Master's degree. But I'll be posting on Liberty and Power again tomorrow.
Still looking for the Clarion-Ledger story on Hanbury's dismissal.
I just checked the online archives, and couldn't find it there.
Does anyone have a link to the story? Or if it isn't online, could anyone quote the material from the print version about Hanbury being carried on Angie Dvorak's budget? This is explosive, if true.

I suspect many of the administrative hires (e.g., Hanbury, Ken Malone, Richard Hadden [the guy working on the Gulfport VA hospital initiative], Gregg Lassen [before he became CFO]) have been/are being paid with research funds controlled through the VP for Research's office. As has been noted in an earlier thread, these funds are not state allocated, and therefore are not published in the University's budget book. I don't know if information about these funds could be obtained through FOIA.

Googler:
If Hadden is who I think he is --- the guy with the MD in the econ development department --- his salary comes from central administration. They --- Hudson etc. --- keep pestering Harold Doty to sign paperwork putting half of Hadden's salary in the CBED budget, but Doty is having none of it. Hadden doesn't have any qualifications to add to CBED. Chalk up another bold move for Doty.!!

Remember that the Senate called for a state audit yesterday -- specifically targetting the administrative positions because of an apparent failure to follow the usual (legal?) hiring processes. If that audit happens it will also have to address the issues of the pay source for all thee administrators.
A portion of the press release when Ken Malone and wife were hired indicating source of funds:
Southern Miss’s vice president for research, Dr. Angie Dvorak, recently was given additional responsibilities by Thames to oversee the university’s emerging economic development initiatives. She said a private contribution to the USM Research Foundation paved the way for the hiring of Malone, whom she described as a “new and innovative talent...
Malone’s wife, Kelli Booth, an Atlanta native and chemical engineering graduate of Georgia Tech, spent 10 years managing business groups and currently works as a market manager for Atofina. She soon will join the staff of USM’s Mississippi Polymer Institute in a position funded by private contributions channeled through the Research Foundation to MPI.

Money from the Clemson University Foundation has been used for questionable purposes at times, but never to pay the entire salary and benefits of an upper administrator. Shelby and Angie have been more, er, creative...

"Central administration" could mean the USM Research Foundation or one of the General Fund (state money) accounts controlled by the administration. The $2 million that was "reallocated" to instruction as a result of the "reorganization" could be a full or partial funding source for some of these people. If they are on state money, even partially, they have to be listed in the Budget Book.
