Wasn't the mysterious Dr. Richard Hadden (MD) originally hired to be involved in this? That was before he was endorsed by Kenbot and Tim Hudson to be a Professor in Economic Development. Unless there is a new sanitization of Hudson's internet PhD website, then Dr. Hadden is listed as a Professor with a PhD. His posted bio makes no mention of a PhD. Warning...high level administrative hirings moved to faculty lines without national searches! Who is paying for these unqualified people? Better not be coming out of instructional budgets.
This is not the position below we discussed. If you recall, the position I refereed to was advertised in the Chroncile of Higher Ed during February 2004, and as I said it was not in econ dev., but would crossover with some applications with the econ dev. dept.
However, there is a new job posting as of 5/6/04 on the USM employment site (and copied below). I find it interesting that USM is searching for a "Professor of Practice" to teach Ph.D. econ dev and science students, and the position does not require a Ph.D. I don't know many Ph.D. programs that don't require Ph.D.'s teaching in them. See job announcement below:

Position Job Description:
The Department of Economic Development at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for the position of Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurialism and Science. The successful applicant is expected to develop a vigorous research program related towards entrepreneurial training and facilitation of science students. Teaching and developing graduate courses in entrepreneurialism for physical science Ph.D. candidates is also required.

A Ph.D. in the physical sciences is preferred. Extensive business experience as evidenced by executive management of fortune 500 corporations, leadership of national business/technology organizations and creation of startup companies is required. Qualified individuals should submit a curriculum vita with a statement of research and teaching plans, graduate transcript and three references to Dr. Kenneth Malone, Department of Economic Development, the University of southern Mississippi, 118 College Drive #5022, Hattiesburg, MS 39406-0001. To receive full consideration, applications must be received by May 20, 2004; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
The originator of this job description needs help. My diagnosis is crackheaded multiple personality disorder with idiot tendencies.
Ken Malone, you can't have it both ways. You can't limit CBED courses to science students and you can't have a preferred Ph.D. who is required to develop doctoral courses. If we start writing job descriptions to fit the misfits hiding in Economic Development, I am going to declare myself a poet scientist historian and teach the historical flow of the science of polymers.
