Notice that I am posting this as "ram." Newsflash: That is not my real name. Like many others on this board, I am posting anonymously, because my job (ergo, my paycheck; ergo, the welfare of my family and my own self) might be in jeopardy if I were to do otherwise. Okay, call me gutless. I prefer to think of it as prudent.
There are people who cannot remain anonymous. I have seen posts calling for the director of the alumni association to take some public stand. There have been posts questioning the involvement of the USM Foundation and those involved in the Captial Campaign. The people who work for those organizations (and others employed by USM or its affiliates) cannot hide behind assumed monikers. Their names are written on USM letterhead.
I detect a certain recent turning of public opinion. People in the business community who (in private conversaion) have heretofore remained silent -- or even supportive of the administration -- are beginning to openly express the need for SFT to step down. That is a good thing. As we gain momentum, it would be a bad thing for those of us who have been working for his outster to go overboard. I would hate to see a mob mentality take over.
"If you're not with us, you're against us," is a dangerous assumption. Before you swing that axe, please be sure the head on the block is not that of a friend who just could not speak out as easily as you.
I definitely see your points. I want to point out that when I brought up the thread asking where the Capital Campaign went, part of the answer was that SFT either fired or drove away many of the key players that were working hard to reach the campaign's goal. The main person who is now in place, Tim Ryan, is practically invisible (no public announcements of campaign endeavors, no web pages for the foundation, etc.).
I hope the Campaign is still underway, and I would love to find out one day that the Foundation is doing well and are seeing success. However, without any official word from anyone at USM who would really be able to say, we are left to speculation. I do hope something or someone can spur them to relate the current state of affairs and future plans. It's really important for the university that these efforts not dissolve. It is truly odd to see these efforts become so quiet under a president who is so money-driven... it's quite strange that we find ourselves in this situation, in my view.

Ram:
Strong agreement on your observations from here. If we are going to heal after the Thames administration falls then it will not be at all helpful if we divide ourselves into camps of : "those who were vocal" and "those who were not." We all have different circumstances and concerns that guide our decisions and need not to sit in judgement on one another. Some of us who are very vocal have less to lose than many who might sympathize but have families or others to protect. Others might be on the fence -- I believe strongly in the right of anyone to take no side although it is a position with which I disagree.
Excellent point and thank you for bringing it forward.
