Slow news day?

Am I the only person who has sent letters to the editor that haven't been picked up?

If any editors from the Sun Herald, Clarion Ledger, or Hattiesburg American are reading this board--as you certainly might be in your proper journalistic duty to educate yourselves on issues--please note that I've written all of you at least once without any reply except for the automated one, and not always even then.  I'd hate to think you're primarily publishing letters from one side of a question.

Perhaps others who have written to the editors have had a similar experience?

I do not mean to denigrate any hard-working and principled editor that finds himself working for a corporately owned news service.  We all must do the best we can.

Speaking of corporate ownership, I've somehow mislaid my free copy of the Independent.  The paper's title alone is bracing.  I was going to subscribe.  Can someone help me out here with a phone number or e-address for Subscriptions?

Dr. Lares, I've sent several letters which have never been acknowledged or published.  I assumed they weren't up to snuff.  I also wonder whether the online letter submission at the HA actually works. But your last letter was so, so good, that I'm amazed it hasn't been used.  Also, Dr. Hollandsworth's latest should be a guest column.

I sent a letter to the Sun Herald a while back; they never even acknowledged receipt.  On a positive note, I sent copies of Dr. Lares's letter to the Alumni Board and have received at least one positive reply so far.

I've had several of my letters published by submitting them online (to HA, Sun Herald, CL, and Student Printz).  CL will actually call you to verify that it's your letter.  Don't know if they have a backlog or not...

I found it difficult to get a letter into the Hattiesburg American. They only publish about 2 a day. It is easier to get into the Clarion Ledger and both C.L. and H.A. feed letters to Sun Herald. I found it easy to get letters into S.H.. Also the word limit isn't as big a problem with S.H. and C.L.
I found that the word limit prevents most letters from being published.

A small point of correction: The C-L & HA may feed letters to each other, being Gannett papers, but the S-H is a Knight-Ridder paper & has no affiliation with the other two.
