Our own Virginia Newton is to receive the Medal of Excellence from MUW on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. This honor is bestowed on outstanding leaders in public service. BTW, another honoree will be Sen. Thad Cochran.
Apparently, Ms. Newton is trying to move heaven and earth to be the 2:30 p. m. graduation ceremony at USM and make it to Columbus by 7:00 p. m. I think she may be the only IHL member to attend the 2:30 p. m. program.
I am requesting that everyone encourage her to attend our ceremony, even though she must slip out no later than 3:30 p. m. in order to make the trip.
I believe we need to see her and she needs to see us. If she makes it, I want everyone to "BRING DOWN THE HOUSE" when Thames introduces her. Show the love...
I also heard Roy Klumb will attend the evening ceremony. You are free to use your own judgement on that one.
I hope Virginia gets a standing O at the graduation ceremony....

We shouldn't be too disappointed if Mrs. Newton can't make either ceremony here---it's a long way to Co-lumbus and rain might make a drive there more tedious and problematic than she would want to risk. But I agree if she is there that wild applause is appropriate; I for one shan't lift a finger in applause for Mr. Klumb.
We should also note that Rachel Quinlivan will walk the stage fairly early in the procession. We should all pay attention at least until then so we can give her a salute too.
