Read with interest your msg in the College Board thread. I tend to lean toward the "we lost" side, so much of what you say interets me. In particular I'm a sucker for the
"I know things about USM. I will post no more."
ending. I want to know what you know, the better to be prepared. I want to have every bit of ammunition for the last stand. I want to poke Shelby in the eye with a sharp stick at just the right moment. If you are the person with the goods, please deliver them here and now.
FWIW, I do not share my colleagues' distaste for discouraging words. I find them cleansing. I find them charming and just as bad as I expected. Please, I implore you, deliver the whole story.
Don't leave us now. We need a big picture person here. Too much of what goes on here is whining and wringing of hand and wishful thinking. The fight is ahead of us, we know that now. We have lost the first round when Glamser and Stringer went down and then were strong-armed into taking the deal that was offered. We have so little experience of this kind of fighting that some of us thought it was a victory for our side. Now, of course, I think we all know better. We need your vision and opinion. We need to hear just how bad off we are. We need to know the worst case, and you are the only one willing and able to provide it.
You're assuming there is a story. I think this person is playing head games. Who is ss/he that knows so much? There are people on this board who are in very, very close, and I doubt RC knows more than they do.
Exactly. Ok, they post a long rant exhorting us to give up hope, throw in the towel and surrender now. Then they act as if they have some secret knowledge, but refuse to share that knowledge. What is the motive for the post? If RC were a caring member of this group, this is a funny way to show care. RC is a troll, and a particularly subtle and evil one.
Dr. Lares mentioned C.S. Lewis' book That Hideous Strength. One of its themes is the human desire to be part of an Inner Circle, to know things that others don't. This is at the heart of movements like Gnosticism, or its modern day offshoots which teach that there is "secret knowledge" available only to the elect. RC is playing at being a member of an Inner Circle, and "playing" is the operative word.
