It was the most outrageous thing I had ever seen. Billy Boy began his speeech with a Pro-Thames Commercial, then explained his Dr. Thames decision to invite him as keynote speaker for the GC graduation ceremony. He announced to a dismayed audience that SFT asked him to speak because he couldn't find anyone else to come and sit with him!! He then asked SFT why he couldnt get any Faculty Senate members to sit up there with him...which drew BOO's from the audience of graduates and guests...yes, it's true. He then began a tirade about sweeping floors and flipping burgers until everyone was in total disbelief. To completely ruin the morning, he began his preaching about the lord..and completely embarassed the platform party by his utter blubbering. As soon as he finished speaking, the rain came...total chaos unfolded as graduates, faculty and families ran for the Auditorium, clear to the rear of the campus..and endured the worst makeshift rain plan concievable..graduating each college one at a time, filing graduates and families in and out of the auditorium, because of course it was not large enough to accomodate them. It was a fine mess. The graduates expressed their unhappiness as they waited soaking wet in classrooms with their families, waiting for their college to be called. They couldn't believe the nerve of Good Ole Boy Billy, to take a shot at the faculty senate at Commencement..."there's a time and a place"..was quoted by some students. The platform party looked dismayed and disinterested throughout, including SFT, Ken Malone, Tim Hudson, and the remaining faculty members who didn't sneak off when the chaos insued. Did I mention there wasn't a microphone for the announcement of the graduates and their degrees? Many parents where outraged that they couldnt even hear. I feel horrible for these graduates, and even worse for those recieving their PHD's.
There was a Sun Herald reporter there, and she interviewed several students..She said that she had no plans of reporting on Billy Boy..only how the students felt about graduating.

Well, guess which newspaper still has a pro-Shelby editorial policy.
Well, on the bright side, since both Hewes and the Guvner gave such religious speeches, and our Prez invited them, maybe The Prez has come to Jesus himself and we can from now on expect a more spiritual leadership style from the dome, a style based in personal humility and a love of justice; in selflessness and an open, loving concern for other peoples' feelings and points of view; and in charity, without which all is as sounding brass and tinkling cymbal. And maybe, while he's at it, he could chase the damn moneychangers from the temple.
