Just had lunch with an international development phd student. He told me that his department is hiring Jack Hanbury (this fall) as an adjunct professor of international development. They are revising their curriculum heavily and are adding some business law component, which Hanbury will teach.
I told him I didn't think it could be true, and he said it came straight from Ken Malone (they were all out the other night). He said Malone told them all and was laughing at the fact that JH would be back on campus teaching and working. He even said KM said that his salary would be pretty good --- between $65k and $80k. They're trying to move some CBED funds around and combine them with some central admin money.
The phd student that told me this thinks I'm "down with the cause", but he doesn't know I am not on his side about things. I'll keep it that way so he'll keep feeding info.
If true, OUT RAGEOUS! Jack Hanbury has NO PLACE on this or any other campus.

Well, duh, (as my kids say.) If you ain't a troll, you just "outed" yourself with your source. You just had lunch with somebody who gives you inside info and YOU POST IT ON THIS BOARD. Think they might make you?

Excellent point, ram. I have wondered if some of the more outrageous rumors that crop up here aren't really devices to test the flow of information. It's an old technique, to give a piece of information to one person and watch the path it takes.

One of the more recent Tom Clancy books built a story around this strategy. More interesting than giving a piece of information to one person is giving slightly different versions to different people and seeing which versions show up. Did Tim Hudson learn this in CIA school?

Aw, I shouldn't have been so abrupt, I guess, and I do apologize if the source was sincere. I have to admit though, the combination of outrageous rumor and creative spelling does put me on edge.
If the internet had been available to the Underground, we'd probably all be drinking Warsteiner and Beck's. Wait a minute, I do drink Warsteiner and Beck's.
I dare Jack Hanbury to show his face on USM's campus, much less as a faculty member (even adjunct). This is a ridculous rumor meant to rile everyone up. Don't take the bait.

Hoping the link passes through the board's de-profanitizer intact, I offer that this libation might be something USM employees, students & supporters would find familiar...

Invictus,
Yup, the link passed through. I realize you offered this suggestion with tongue firmly planted in cheek, and clearly it's name is rich with symbolism, but I gotta tell you that it's really good stuff. In fact, I think I'll go fetch a pint now.....thanks for reminding me.
I know everyone is very suspicious of this first post, but I have heard rumblings of this actually happening (earlier this week). There could be something to it.
I still want one of those $65K adjunct appointments. Question: most places you have to have a Master's degree to be an adjunct. I know Mr. Hanbury has a JD, but what could he teach? Does he have an advanced academic degree in a subject area?
I would be so, so surprised if this really happened. I think it is just rumor mongering.
