What's ironic about it? Academics has rescued athletics more than once. There is nothing ironic about returning a favor.

But "we" do not need to get SFT to do anything. Either he will go after Bower or he'll realize that it would be suicidal. Personally, I wouldn't wish a full frontal SFT attack on anyone, whether or not it "advances the cause."

Given Shelboo's record, is it likely that he would go after Bower? Given Bower's personality and record, is it likely that he would have a massive amount of support? From what Noel Polk posted on another thread, Shelboo is on a short leash right now. IF this happens, unless things have changed a lot since I've been in the 'Burg, Bower is popular with the students, alumni, and city-folk. Is this still the case??

FOI's regarding his lab need to be sent. Who works for him? Does anyone work there that might be connected elsewhere in his family?????

Jeff and Debbie Bower are stand up people. Stephanie, their daughter who will be a freshman at USM this fall, made the USM cheerleading squad for next year (she's a truly gifted gymnast). SFT going after JB is so out of line - how many more people can SFT afford to marginalize?

I think it might be as close as anything SFT could do that would incite rioting in the streets.

Unfortunately, the same group of big athletic donor used car salesmen that helped get SFT his present gig is also "out to get" Jeff Bower. If SFT thinks that special interest group outweighs the popularity of the Bower family in the local community, then he's just plain nuts. (If SFT knows anything about Div. I football & thinks that Bower needs replacing, then he's just plain nuts, too.)

I'll reiterate what educator said: Jeff & Debbie Bower are stand up people. SFT would be crazy to do anything more than hassle the coach after a bad game.

What's at stake here is a contract extension, not Bower's current contract. It's been customary to award a year extension to the contract for coaches that win the conference & take the team to a bowl game. Not anymore. I guess Jeff Bower & Noel Polk have a lot more in common than anyone suspects.

For those of you who think that everything is roses between Bower and Thames, ask yourself this question. Why has Bower not gotten the contract extension he deserves after a nine win season and the C-USA Championship?

I'll tell you why, because Thames wants unreasonable clauses in the contract that include a no-buyout clause after the third year, and no automatic contract extentions after C-USA Championships.

It looks like you guys are taking my idea and running with it....should I be flattered?
