Since IHL Board member Robin Robinson mentioned in today's Hattiesburg American that the overwhelming majority of the approximately 75 communications she has received about USM has been from supporters of President Thames, may I please remind her
(a) of the overwhelming vote of no confidence in Thames by the USM faculty;
(b) of the overwhelming vote of no confidence in Thames by the Faculty Senate;
(c) of the more than 600 signatures by persons expressing no confidence in Thames recorded on the following on-line petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?usmtruth&1
(d) of the fact that President Thames consistently loses polls in the local media by margins of at least 75% (usually the tally is closer to 85% anti-Thames).
The fact that Ms. Robinson chose not to mention these data does not boost one's confidence in her fairness and objectivity. I hope that she will make a sincere effort to pay closer attention to the views of people who are deeply troubled by President Thames's disastrous impact on USM. He, after all, will be gone as President before too long, if only because of his age, but the reputation of having supported him in his destruction of USM will linger for years. I sincerely hope that this is a reputation Ms. Robinson will not win or deserve.

Thanks, Truth (and Robert Campbell, also)! I have two different letters already under submission on other topics to the CL and HA; I have no idea whether they will be printed, but I doubt that either paper will want to hear again from me for a while. If anyone wants to use the info cited in the letter above for a letter of his or her own, please feel free to use it. Or, for that matter, if anyone just wants to copy the letter verbatim and submit it under her/her own signature, please feel free.
