WDAM did a story on the casino management degree. They went into the CBED admin offices and interviewed Doty, who said the fall implementation was full steam ahead.
Next, they did a story on the new law firm. Had video of Dvorak and Hanbury sitting in some new digs. On Hanbury's desk, you could see a business card holder with a stack of his USM risk manager business cards in it.
JH went on and on about how much he loves Hattiesburg, and wanted to give back to the community. Dvorak said that they would be a service oriented law firm. Behind him on a bookcase was a framed photo of his Angeline.
Now they get to ease into the Hattiesburg legal community and interact with those they called morons in the now infamous memo.
Was H'burg running a shortage of attorneys? But it will be interesting to see how they are received by the nebulous and misguided counsel. Wonder if they'll be invited to join Zeus?
It's criminal for WDAM to give them that kind of coverage--in what sense is this "news"? If I start a tractor company are they going to give me 4 minutes on the nightly news? Someone ought to complain to the stupid WDAM "news director" for heaven's sake.
But I'm sure Shelby will make certain they have plenty of business, that's what business is all about, at least as it's practiced around here--making sure your pals get plenty of money from people you influence or control.
I wouldn't stress too much about this. After the rush of publicity they have to sink or swim like everybody else out there. Somebody suggested they do some pro bono work, and that would be a fine thing for them to do, to show their genuine affection for the community. They were newsworthy because of their connection with USM, but now they have to actually practice law, and we should move on to other things.

I agree. If either one of these guys were adept at the law, you wouldn't have seen them relocate to accept table scraps from Mr. Thames. Now let's see how well they fare on their own.

I guess I'm not up on my Hanbury-Dvorak history, but didn't someone post on an earlier thread that these guys were law partners in Kentucky? If that's correct, did they summarily dissolve that practice in order to move to Hattiesburg, and accept the Risk Manager and HR positions at USM? I realize, as I pose the question, that this matter likely has nothing to do with anything, now that they're gone from USM, but theirs does seem to be a somewhat tortuous career path. If the KY practice was "successful," it's hard to imagine their leaving it behind (at their ages) in order to accept extra-legal positions in Hattiesburg.

Full steam ahead? That might mean something if Doty had people with an educational and/or practical background with which to teach casino management classes. Who's he trying to kid? I suppose the answer is everyone.
Since he knows everything and never makes a mistake, maybe Doty's going to do it all himself.
This tidbit barely rises above the level of base gossip, but you may find it amusing. My wife and I spent a long weekend in Biloxi last month. While there, I struck up a conversation with an employee of the Beau Rivage casino, who was very excited about the new USM casino and gaming program, because....drum roll....many of the casino employees were hopeful that they'd be able to secure adjunct faculty positions at USM-GC. Apparently, according to him, some individual associated with USM had made inquiries at the larger casinos concerning the "credentials" of their management personnel, and suggested that there might be employment opportunities forthcoming, as adjunct instructors, for those who possessed college degrees. Huh ?
