Give me names of other professors besides Whiting, Sulentic, and Kinney. I'm trying to get a list together for the media to investigate. Does anyone know anything about Dr. Anoush Pisani's office being locked down and 3 of her staff members being fired?
You are right about Pisani and staff. I'm not sure how you would verify what happened. I don't think you'll get any info out of the Human Resources dept.
How 'bout a list of high level staff that this happened to as well? I know Ken Hayman was locked out of his office. I'm sure there are others.
Don't forget Ruth Ann Cade, in Engineering Technology... and one might want to investigate why Don Cotten left the university after losiing the presidential appointment. He did recieve the most endorsement from the faculty to be president of this university.
Ruddy Sirrochman was denied 3rd year as I was. That's me, M-M Sulentic you referred to, and I wasn't fired, just given a horrible 3rd year review with lots of lies in print........thank you Dana Thames.......I resigned. Unlike Dr. Dvorak, I wasn't about to let anyone ruin my career. I appealed the negative vote at year 3. My appeal was upheld unanamously by the University Advisory Committee, but the new provost denied it as did Shelby Thames. Nepotism at it's finest! Perhaps a few of you should LOOK AT DANA THAMES vitae.........................lots of inacuracies there........ie, you don't list yourself as first author when in print, you aren't. Heck, she couldn't even spell SERVICE correctly on her vitae. This mess started years ago................what you are seeing isnthe tip of the iceburg. Don't belive me? Look at the faculty roster in CISE two years ago, and compare it to now. Those who know me, know how to contact me. My lawyer is Mix=chael Adelman, too.
Whiting's attorney is Kim Chaze. I found that out on google. That suit is coming to fed court soon I think What makes hers interesting is that Dana was her chair, Dr. Sulentic's chair too.
The plot thickens. Did some checking. Rudy Sirochman was denied tenure and promotion, it wasn't a 3rd year review. He passed at the departmental level and was denied by the Dean of Science and Tech with no specific reason given. He's also a close friend of Whiting's. Could be a coincidence, but it sure seems strange to me. I'm going to keep digging - have nothing better to do while on spring break.
Don Cotten left USM of his own volition. He didn't want to be part of a Thames administration, because he knew how it would operate. He is doing great things at Arkansas State now.
Okay, here's the scoop as I heard it on Don Cotten/Shelby Thames vying for the USM presidency after the Fleming mess. Shelby was on the presidential search committee at first, remember? And then suddenly, he was one of the candidates. Well, what I heard was that Shelby put his hat into the ring once it was clear that Don Cotten was going to be the pick. Apparently, Shelby was mad at Don because when Don was VP of Research (Dvorak's current position) he made some decision to go after congressional pork money for Marine Sciences on the Coast over Polymer Science. Shelby thought Don would overemphasize Marine Sciences as prez, so he got *his* cronies at the College Board to "install" him as prez. Pretty nice, eh?
Between attornies Adelman and Chaze - they've got their hands full. This administration screams of chaos and unlawful behavior. Sulentic is now an administrator with the East Baton Rouge Parish overseeing Curriculum and Instruction. She still owns a house in Hattiesburg and spends weekends there. She still attends the Catholic Church in downtown Hburg. She has a lot of the goods on this debacle. Sirochman is at Georgia State in Atlanta - he keeps close ties to his former dept. at USM. Kinney is gearing up to blow the goods on this place. What you all need to remember is that USM is more than a president, VP of Research, Department Chair daughter -- USM will survive and be better for it once all is exposed, the correct people are released and the healing can begin.
There have been many rumors about why Shelby got in the prez race. I was told it was because he did not want Tim Hudson. Hudson actually had the best application for the presidency (I was on the committee), he was the only one who laid out a plan of what was wrong and here is how I am going to fix it. Don got screwed by the college board, the search committee loved him (actually the college board interviewed nearly a completely different list of candidates than what the search committee sent them, so the basically the college board said screw you to the whole committee). When the interviewing was going on, the college board had surveys from each of the little meetings the candidates had with different groups (ie faculty, staff, students, alumni, etc) and Thames did the best of the 3 candidates with every group, I guess expect the faculty, but I never knew how the surveys came out (remember, the board did not consider the AAUP poll). For the students, Thames did best with the lady from California second and the guy from Akron a distant 3rd (remember the faculty poll was exactly opposite). They were not going to offer the woman from Cal the job because she was going to be offered the presidency of U of New Hamp and she was more likely going to take that job. Both the students, alumni, athletics rated the Akron guy really low and only the faculty did not like Thames (and they liked the guy everyone else hated, in other words, no middle of the road candidate)…so there you go, that is why Thames is president. That goes to show why more than 40 students should show up to student forums. Just think if there had been this much student interest when we were looking for a president.
In reply to the assumption that the students liked Thames better, I will quote from a headline at Student Printz Vol. 85, Issue 55 dated Thursday April 18, 2002: "Students Unsure of Thames" ( I put the unsure in bold). Especially the student from the coast campus that apparently earned Shelby's wrath during a Q & A session (Yes, I do know how to look up information in archives). Of the "15,000" (what is the correct number again?) students that were enrolled during the time of the poll, the SGA only got a trifling amount to vote.
As qoted from the Student Printz:
"Students filled out 49 surveys for Thames, 33 for Hickey and 32 for Hart. Even though there are over 15,000 students at USM, Hamm said he thinks the sample of surveys accurately reflects the student support for Thames on campus...." (Hey Hamm, WTF?!!!!)
Of all the other professors, we know that Kinney and Whiting are in current litigation with these people. We know that Whiting's lawsuit is in Federal Court with a jury trial and it is set to be heard in May. We know that it will be open to the public to attend. We know that the law firm of Adams and Reese are set to defend USM and the Thames duo in this case. We know that many of the key people who supported Whiting in the tenure/promotion process such as Griffen and Cotten are no longer here. We know the UAC upheld a positive recommendation for her when she appealed DT's decision. We know that Whiting's liberal arts background didn't bode well for her in a pool of education sharks. Her teaching experience made her a far better education professor than the private school pittance that DT can boast about when she stuck her toe in the water of school experience. With both of DT's brothers in oral surgery - they could have full time jobs keeping their father and sister's feet out of their mouths.
Of the 5 individuals who were in the Financial Affairs office when Thames took the helm 2 years ago, there are only 2 left. This week one of those two announced plans to retire at the end of tht year. So in the fall it will be 1 of the original 5. FINANCIAL Affairs, Hmmmmmmmmmm
