This is pretty interesting stuff. Go look at the first-page attribution footnote of each of the 2 articles and see if she thanks any granting authority/institution for financially supporting the work. Knowing who her father is, I'll bet she took grant money to do the work.
Please post what you find as an appendix to the report.
Any grant money that Daughter Dana receives is more than likely in the category of Pork Barrel. For example, she has some kind of Center for Literary Assessment over in her dept. that was at one time funded to the tune of about 1 million a year. She can thank Shelby backer and MS political leader Thad Cochran for that. I have a friend whose child attended that Center and she said that it was a "total" waste of time. Dana was clearly over her head with that( as she appears to be over her head in oh so many endeavors). So much for D.C. funded educational funds.
Good job with your expose...do you have any contacts with the media to get this story out? I have a contact at the Hattiesburg American who could get the story to the right person. If you're interested, email me at truth@firethames.com, and I'll be glad to put you in contact with this person.
The Donne Variorum Project is worth a million Shelby Thames. I'm a poet and translator in the UK, with a particular interest in John Donne's poetry, and Professor Stringer's work is much admired over here. The circumstances involved suggest that Thames and Truth don't mix too well, Thames and Freedom are somewhat opposing concepts...and that you guys would be well advised to fight hard for the integrity and intellectual survival of USM before Thames kills it stone dead. Best of luck in any protest, and in any attempt to get Professor Stringer et al reinstated.
Tony Kline: Please write a letter as such to The Hattiesburg American (www.hattiesburgamerican.com), the Chronicle of Higher Education (http://chronicle.com/), and any other media outlet others can think of. This is exactly the kind of letter that needs to be written...explaining the impact of Shelby's near-sightedness. This has international impact, people!
Everything needs to be exposed. Dana Thames is no brainiac, but Stringer and Glamser are both gifted intellectual men. Why does this university reward the mediocre, at best, and punish the brilliant? Reminds me of something out of Animal Farm.
