During Spring 2004 Commencement Ceremonies this May, graduates should proceed across the stage, get their diplomas, shake their Deans' hands, and "snub" Shelby's handshake as they head off the stage.
I will be graduating with y'all and want to get out of here real quickly. I agree with all ideas, but let's think a minute about how would it make us look. I think it would make us look real childish; after all, we are new leaders going out into the real world. I would vote we do not do this. What happens if a prospective employer were to be in the audience or catch wind of this? I think a mature approach is better. I do not agree with Bush, but I respect the Position.
I get your point, but what if you did something that couldn't even be noticed by the audience? How go down the line, shake his and instead of saying "thank you", say "resign, please"? Nobody'd notice that and you could still get your point across.
I will not be in attendance, but if the everyone will just not applaud for anything he says, his introduction, anything - the silence could be golden. People should just sit there and do nothing. Friends and family should applaud for their graduates. Graduates have earned their degrees and should have their moment. I had to watch him hand my daughter a diploma not all that long ago and cringed at the sight, but graduation was about her - a USM student. I think that everyone who walks across the stage should take the symbolic diploma - not respond to him and basically try to isolate him like he tries to isolate everyone who differs with his ideas and actions. Of course people could walk in with tea bags and brooms . . . .!!!!!
