I'm curious to know how other administrators have reacted to the current crisis. Have they fallen behind President Thames, or have any expressed disagreement with his actions? I believe I read that the Provost indicated that he would not have acted as President Thames did. Is this correct? What about any others?
Thanks for this info! It's pretty significant when the chief academic officer of a university publicly disagrees with a President's decision. Have any other upper-level adminstrators been as gutsy?
It also seems significant that so many lower-level administrators have apparently dissented from President Thames's decision (the Academic Council and the department heads). These are not usually fire-breathers; the fact that so many administrators BESIDES President Thames seem to be troubled by his actions should give his intelligent student and community supporters pause.
You know, this is huge folks. No other administrators have come out in support of Shelby. Not Jay Grimes on the coast, not Joe Paul. Plus, if you go on the USM website you will see that there is no Chief Information Officer hired yet (and I'll bet there won't be unless Shelby can find someone he knows or is related to who can do that job!). Gregg Lassen isn't even up on the page yet for VP of Business and Finance (or CFO, as they like to say).
