So I've seen these little papers scattered around the LAB today with the words "Let's Party" in bold letters. I pass them at first thinking they are for another house party here.
I just picked up one and it reads:
1 April 2004
LET'S PARTY
8:00am until.....
Make Thames the Fool, Shut down the school.
Boycott all classes until Thames resigns
BYO party supplies
Invite your friends
Copycat signs welcome
Now, is this a pro thames stunt? an anti-thames stunt? an april fools joke on students? etc?
It not only sounds fishy, but how is skipping classes going to convince anyone of anything?
This flyer was not disseminated by Concerned Students for USM.
I just talked to one of the CSUSM organizers; he said it appears to be a flyer put out by pro-Shelby people (SGA???) to discredit CSUSM and other protesters.
Don't despair...the people who are organizing CSUSM and the bona fide protests have much more sense than to urge students to shoot themselves in the foot.
I think someone should right to the student printz about this for the Thursday issue. What if students take this seriously?
I'm only concerned because this morning I went to class and saw a healthy stack of these in the stairwells, then this evening around 5pm, I picked up the last one.

Great suggestion...I will do that and I will also advise CSUSM to do the same thing. I think I will post a message in LBN on the site, too.
i suggest you guys check the bullentin boards by the comp lab and hit the stairwells tomorrow. as i said, i got the last one from the stairwell on the west side of the building.
or maybe counterattack with mini flyers stating not to skip classes, in case pro administrators find out and point the finger.

I would bet my last dollar that that is where these flyers originated--with the others who have no other flaws with CSUSM to point out. Therefore, they are now manufacturing incriminating evidence. I agree--CSUSM needs to write a letter to Rachel tonight to have this tactic exposed and to inform students that CSUSM does NOT advocate them boycotting classes.
There are small flyers circulating around campus imploring students to skip class on April Fools' Day as a means of protest. Some have alleged these flyers originated from the Concerned Students of USM, which couldn't be farther from the truth. CSUSM in no way advocates students protesting by skipping class, in fact, we ask all students to continue attending their classes. As we students are here to be educated, dutifully attending lectures is part and parcel to our attaining the education we are paying for.
