Child exploitation counts filed Girls age 5-17 involved, Brandon police say

A 41-year-old Brandon man has been charged with 60 counts of child exploitation, Brandon police said Wednesday.

David Scott Burtnett also is charged with 78 counts of filming without permission, said Chief Byron McDaniel.

McDaniel would not detail the charges, but he said they involved girls from 5 to 17 years old, and the alleged crimes involved use of the Internet.

Burtnett, a systems analyst with the state College Board, was arrested Tuesday and made an initial court appearance Wednesday. His bond was set at $750,000. He remained in the Rankin County Jail on Wednesday evening.

Police seized a computer and other evidence from Burtnett's home at 731 S. College St., McDaniel said. A tip from a reliable source prompted police to start investigating the case on Monday, McDaniel said.

Wonder if they have begun termination proceedings on him.  They can always hire an Adams and Reese lawyer to defend him.  Jim Keith isn't available, though--his plate's pretty full defending Shelby and Dana.
