Thames dictatorship flows downward to GCRL

Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, Miss. is also part of the Thames-run dictatorship.  This institution, which has only 9 or 10 graduate students and 170 employees on the public dole, including tenured professors who could conceivably teach at Hattiesburg, but are excused from doing so by Thames-research intensive attitude, continues to 'leech' off the state and the university.  And, do not think that Thames' dictatorial attitude is confined to the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses.  An employee at GCRL was locked out of her office and placed on administrative leave and forced to resign BEFORE the Glamser and Stringer incident in March.  So, the Thames mentality was present BEFORE Thames actually took action with Glamser and Stringer.  And, Jay Grimes, Gulf Coast provost and personal appointee of Thames, is still executive-director of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory so that he can reside in the Director's house on that campus rent-free.  I believe that a CLEAN SWEEP of the administration should be conducted and an investigation into the spending practices of all units of the University of Southern Mississippi.  Too much has been 'covered up' by Thames' public relations machine which includes ALL public relations offices within the University of Southern Mississippi.

"an investigation into the spending practices of all units of the University of Southern Mississippi."

Does anyone know how to call for an audit? Can anyone do it? I really believe staff who have been locked out in the past two years would have a lot to tell if they were required to give evidence during an audit. Someone on campus has to have the information that would be necessary to call for an audit and to call for an EEOC investigation into search/hiring practices. Those of us who are not on campus/connected to USM anymore do not have the information to do that. Is this a legitimate role for faculty council to play, as they are shut out of playing any other meaning role in terms of administsrative interaction.

This is nothing new. I worked at GCRL 25 years ago.
Don't blame everything on Shelby Thames. GCRL was flakey long before it was placed under the umbrella of USM.

Audits of a unit in a state university are like audits of any other state agency. They are the responsibility of a state official sometimes called Comptroller...I don't know what the title is in Mississippi.

Don't be surprised if this person's office is reluctant to carry out the audit, though. There's a lot of looking the other way in these kinds of situations.
