I don't see Anthony Harris' name on this list. He was Assistant to the President and was fired on Nov 30 2002. At the time he was teaching a graduate course - he offered to complete the semester (for the benefit of his students) if the university would pay him through the end of the semster (another week or 10 days). Shelby said no and as a result the students were left hanging. Another example of Shelby putting students first.

BTW, Anthony was a man of color.....now extinct in the Dome.

I went to h.s. with Anthony Harris. He was one of the classiest guys around, regardless of color. I was excited when Fleming added him to the staff & disgusted with Thames shoved him out the door.

One thing we can say about Thames: He doesn't make "token n****r" appointments.

Anthony Harris gave a short lecture in Dr. Hollingsworth's Ms. History class about his participation in Freedom Summer as a child in Hattiesburg. If I'm not mistaken he was also a school super. in Texas. He is a remarkable man.

Harris and Hollingsworth are indeed missed.

Babbs, what is your timeframe on these?

I know these two should be added, but don't know if they fit your temporal limits:

Jim Hollandsworth, Professor of Psychology and former Dean of the Graduate School (early retirement)

Susan Hollandsworth, Director of the USM Capital Campaign and former Interim Director of the USM Foundation (The Nature Conservancy)

The time frame is people who left USM, or are leaving, since the beginning of '03-'04.  I think the Hollandsworths may fit this, but I'm not sure.

Both Susan and Jim Hollandsworth left in Dec 03 and they are among USM's biggest losses. Jim was a superb abministrator and scholar and Susan was dynamite fund raiser. They made the Dvorak-Hanberry cabal look like clowns.

Rudy Sirochman left before Fall 2003 because he was denied tenure and promotion. ALthough his Dept. review was extremely favorable and the College Advisory Committee was equally favorable, suddenly his Dean had this immediate reversal of decision and didn't endorse him although NO reasons were given for that.  Rudy - being a Physics person with wonderful credentials - thought - "what the heck" and put his name out -- Georgia State grabbed him up and GA State is better for it.  Rudy received a hefty raise and improved benefits.  USM's loss is an academic gain for GSU and financial gain for Dr. Sirochman.

Jim left this past December and Susan left this past October.  Two HUGE losses for USM.  I agree with everything you said.

Dr. Hollandsworth was also an absolutely amazing teacher ~ I had him for several courses and he was outstanding.  I always thought he had a truly brilliant mind and USM has really lost out with his leaving.
