My copy arrived in the mail yesterday afternoon...I started reading it last night....I finished reading it this morning. If you haven't yet read this book DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! The correlations between the Thames and McCain administrations are so uncanny. Anyone who is in doubt as to Thames' vision of the future of USM should read this book posthaste.

Something I forgot to mention. Given the shallow and maleavolent characters of persons such as McCain and M. M. Roberts, why do we allow prominent campus structures to retain their names. However, Roberts probably rolls in his grave when the Eagles play--since our start athletes are African Americans

It would be good if we didn't have a plagiarist's name on our research library and archives, too. (McCain!)

LOL! That brought back a memory from my childhood. When the Johnson Science Tower was being built, there was the usual tall board privacy fence around the construction site. The only graffiti I can remember the fence attracting were the words "McCain Plagiarizes."

Thanks for that memory. I was younger & stupider then, but I had hair. (Boy, did I have hair! )

The real tragedy is that Dr. Lucas had taken the university out of the "bad old days" and into a brighter future. For whatever reason the change was not permanent. Thames will go down in history as part of the rogues' gallery of USM, and the Lucas era will have been but a moment in the sunshine.

sadly so.  I've wondered about how Lucas feels about what is going on (I can't imagine he feels good).  As I said on another thread, in higher education it can take years to build something of quality, but it be destroyed in short order without vigilance.

You are a bit tipsy I think............a bit over the
edge on Lucas = GOOD..............................

where

anyone else = BAD !

It is not so simple my good man.

Lucas had his own demons and that long long "learning curve" (Dr. Neil McMillan).

Let's be smarter here.

OK, compared to NOW, it seems tame, but let's not go overboard.

Actually, I spoke to Neil (McMillen).  He said that the Thames administration is much worse than the McCain one--and he emphasized the word MUCH.  And Bill Scarborough said the same thing.  I trust their judgment.

Let me add that although Lucas might not be (or have been) perfect, he welcomed the faculty senate.  Compared to Thames, who is intent on shutting the facsenate down, I can see why many people relish the Lucas era(s).

Just my two cents.

I heard today that the dome is hoping to keep FacSen quiet until after the budget cycle first week in May - does that seem to correspond with keeping quiet during the hearings?  I don't think so!
