Good morning, friends. 

I have received many requests to capture an assortment of screen shots for documentary evidence of the evolution of USM's website.

Since my hard drive's storage is finite, and USM's edited web pages are infinite, I offer you this tutorial on capturing screenshots:

1) Go to the page that you want to capture.  Tap the title bar so that you are sure the page you are capturing is highlighted.  The title bar is the bar at the top of the web page on which the title of the webpage and the minimize/maximize/x-out buttons are located.

2) Scroll to the part of the page you want to capture.  What you see on your screen is what you will save--only what is visible in your browser, plus the browser frame will be saved, nothing more. I always capture the top of the page, because that is where the address bar is located.  It is important to do this for verification purposes that the page you are capturing was found at the URL in the address bar.

It is important to note that if you are on a long page that requires you to scroll, you will have to capture screen shots of each portion of the page if you want to capture the content of the entire page.  I always capture the content of the entire page--this is time consuming, but well worth it.  Most web pages have the "date last updated" on the bottom of the page.  You need to always capture this, too.

3) Simultaneously press these two buttons:

CONTROL (bottom of you keyboard)

PRTSCRN (top--usually right-- of your keyboard)

4) Ok, you now have saved the screen shot, but you need to put it in a file on your hard drive.  This is how I do it.  Open your imaging program (I use Adobe Photoshop) and go to >file >new. Then simultaneously hit CONTROL and the letter V buttons to paste your saved shot into the canvas that opens up.  Then name your file and save to your hard drive or to a CD.

5) Go back to the webpage, scroll down, and follow the same steps above until you have saved the complete webpage.  When you are scrolling and saving, be sure to save "overlaps" so that you know you have the entire page and nothing has been left out.
