We HAVE to do these things this week
Permalink Closed

The hearing is approaching.  It begins Wednesday morning.  Glamser-Stringer supporters, we HAVE to get moving. We HAVE to organize.

We HAVE to have a presence at the hearing.  We HAVE to be noticed.  Glamser and Stringer supporters MUST be seen by the media.

I have received a confidential email in which the author states that Shelby plans to leave nothing to chance.

Expect him to pack the hearing with his supporters, who will "ooh and aahh" at his evidence against our professors. Can't you just see his people sitting there, shaking their heads, tsk tsking the professors as Reuben Anderson presides?

Expect him to twist the arms of his same dependent students, faculty, and staff who he has used before to be present at the hearing and out and about in the Union, speaking Shelby-talk to the media.

We haven't worked this hard to have it all fizzle at game time.  It's time to get moving.  Here are some suggestions for Glamser-STringer supporters:

1) Get to the hearing room EARLY.  If you are prevented from entering, and if you find that all the seats are taken by Shelby supporters, seek out media folks to talk to.

2) Even if you can't get in the hearing room, stay in the Union--wear your shirts supporting the profs--make shirts, wear buttons, carry signs--the media will talk to you.

3) Be informed.  Be prepared to discuss the faculty exodus.  Be prepared to talk about the enrollment lies.  Be prepared to talk about the myriad other reasons why Shelby should be fired.

4) Write letters to the Hat-Am editor today and tomorrow if you want them published before/during the hearings. Call for IHL to fire Shelby.

5) Keep the faith in our professors.  They have offered assurances that they have done NOTHING WRONG.  I believe them.

Best wishes to each and every one of you who have posted on this message board.  When the spotlight leaves USM, if Shelby is in charge, I fear many of you who have been "out" may soon find your necks on the chopping block. If Shelby gets away with the destruction he has wrought at USM this time, expect it to get worse.

We must fight together, for each other.  Remember, Gary and Frank represents each of us.  Let's not allow our support to wane.  We must intensify our efforts next week.  I challenge each and every person who reads this message--who lives in the Hub area--to make an appearance at the Union.  Let's not let the media show one side of the story--we have to be there to tell them what it's like to be faculty/staff/student under the Thames Regime.

Warmest regards,

Fire Shelby

Great words FS.  If any of you know faculty leaving but not on babbs' list, get the info on the board.  It would also be helpful if faculty who are leaving and haven't made it public to do so now if they are willing, to help the cause.

Here is what the director of WUSM told me.  Yes, they will broadcast on the radio and on the internet.  However, since their "internet space" is limited (bandwidth, I presume) they request that people who are within range of the radio station please tune in to the radio  to save bandwidth for people who are out of radio range.

The university itself will NOT provide live internet feed, as Shelby said (lied--numerous times) that it would.

Yes.  And those who are retiring early because of Shelby, attend the hearing and talk to the media.  Let them know that you are retiring EARLY because of the Thames maladministration.

Would it be worth writing the media in advance of the hearing expressing concern that the audience might not be representative of the university (i.e., "packed")?

Yes, I think that would be a good idea.  Or, we just need to be sure that many G-S supporters are present in the simulcast room and around the Union to speak to reporters to TELL them that's the case.

I think a letter to Reuben Anderson telling him that seating is inadequate for all parties involved would be effective.

I wonder if he has approved the use of a room with so few seats.

If there is an official stop time for the hearings, it would be quite impressive to have a HUGE crowd of people waiting as close to the rooms as possible to provide a huge cheer for Gary and Frank when them come out.

And make sure you are there, just in case they let out early.

I wish I could be there to show my support in person!  I'd sleep in the Union overnight, if it meant I could get a seat in the hearing room.  I'll be one of the folks trying to get on the WUSM website to hear the live Internet feed.

Supporters of TRUTH and JUSTICE, do us proud this week!  Know that you represent so many of us around the country and the world who support the professors.

The TRUTH will prevail!

My understanding is that Anderson requested limited seating. The source speculated that he probably felt that a smaller live audience would be easier to keep under control. He probably isn't aware of exactly how hot button an issue this is and also the possible dirty tricks that might be coming.

My best advice for us to is make sure to flood the place with overflow crowds -- maybe they will consider moving it for the second day. At the very least, it will give us an excellent excuse for pointing out that the administration has a growing history of lies and distortions. I don;t know how many of you remember back early in the two days between  the senate vote of no confidence and the general faculty vote the administration speculated publically (and to headlines in at least two papers) that the professors might be returnd to their classrooms. Gee -- what a great strategy for diverting the vote I am sure they hoped that would be. Once the vote was in, that "possibility" was killed within 24 hours.

They lie. And they lie right to our faces and we should not forget it.

As I said, I am bringing a broom to the hearings.

Sweep the stables clean.

looks like a great picture to use for a flyer. i think someone should whip up some small flyers with dates and information on how to access the hearings via internet and radio.
