USM's Graduate Council rescinded the graduate faculty status of Angie Dvorak today. She will be ineligible to teach graduate courses until she reapplies. I wonder which CV she will use to reapply?
From In Disbelief on the Grapevine thread...gives some background to this:
"Faculty Graduate Council is currently investigating the credentials of individuals in Economic Development to assess their qualifications to teach in the College of Business and Economic Development's graduate programs. The investigation by this committee is believed to be what led to the "sanitization" of the Economic Development PhD Program website where, within a matter of weeks, Angie Dvorak's faculty title changed from "Associate Professor" to "Adjunct" to a listing of her as administrator only. The timing was certainly concurrent. I believe that Dr. Bill Powell is the lead person in this investigation. In addition, it is rumored that Bill Powell and Tim Hudson do not get along and that Tim Hudson does not want Bill Powell to be Department Chair."

I suspect that Grad Council might feel that it didn't look closely enough at her resume and might be prepared to take some of the blame for passing on her status . . . I think AD will continue to reiterate that she didn't intentionally deceive anyone (watch to see if her language on that changes).

Perhaps Bill Powell and Tim Hudson can find some common ground now! Great news...good work, Graduate Council!
More and more I realize that this is not so much about whether Angie lied on her CV...it's about how she is utterly unqualified for the position she holds. The more we hear, the more it seems that this is the case.

I am hearing that Riva Brown is already interviewing Bill Powell -- let's home the news get some prominent treatmentin the CL tomorrow. I also believe that the SH and HA have been notified.

They can "sanitize" the website, but in the 2004-2005 Bulletin her faculty title is "Associate Professor of Economic Development and Planning."
Interestingly, Ken Malone's listing in the same Bulletin is "Chair of Economic Development and Planning and Assistant Professor." His listing is the ONLY one in the Bulletin that does not have the associated discipline following the academic rank (e.g., Assistant Professor of XXXXX).
This is a very big deal and it is the beginning of the necessary housecleaning (just keep thinking about those brooms!) in economic development. That department has been out of control but is getting reined in. With this very brave decision by Graduate Faculty Council, Angie Dvorak has just been removed from teaching graduate level courses and supervising PhD dissertations. Ken Malone is going to have a difficult time getting unapproved programs and unqualified people past a watchful Graduate Council now that Graduate Council knows what the department is up to. Tim Hudson is going to have a much more difficult time pushing his internet doctoral program and Phoenix University aspirations onto the College of Business. Shared governance and tranparency to the top!

Why doesn't the Graduate Council start an investigation into Ken Malone next? How can HE supervise PhDs and be involved in the tenure and promotion process having never gone through it himself??? Please, Graduate Council, take Kenbot down next!

And don't forget he has NO BUSINESS DEGREE! Nada, zip, zero. How can he be an Assistant Professor of NOTHING? This is unreal.

The Graduate Council's move is extremely important. And they do need to look at Ken Malone next.
The title "Chair of Economic Development and Planning and Assistant Professor," with no further specification attached, implies that Malone is an Asst. Prof. of Economic Development and Planning.
Is there such a thing at USM? And if there is, what's the evidence that Malone was hired to the position?

Is that online somewhere? Do you have a screenshot? Is there a hardcopy of the Bulletin? People need to be collecting this data ASAP!

Excellent question Flash! I have my thoughts on the matter...

Malone was not hired to that position. I was in the Polymer Science Dept. (working as their grant writer) around the time that Malone was hired. His title then was something like "Director of Economic Ventures"--he was hired under Angie's office. It seems that every few months or so, he adds another job on to his ever-burgeoning plate (Chair of Econ. Dev., head of Gulf Coast Ops, etc. etc.). I'm assuming Shelby put him on the coast to keep Provost Grimes in line.
The University of Southern Mississippi's Graduate Council voted 14-0 Monday to rescind its November action recommending graduate faculty status for Angie Dvorak, USM's vice president for research and economic development.
The council took the action because Dvorak is not in a tenure-track position at USM, said Bill Powell, vice chair of the council and chair of its credentials committee. Dvorak is listed as an associate professor of economic development and planning in USM's Undergraduate Bulletin.
Dvorak is at the center of a controversy that led to the March 5 suspensions of two tenured professors.
A two-day hearing at USM will begin Wednesday to decide if the professors will be fired.
Rescinding Dvorak's status "was initiated by the controversy that erupted ... so that is not unconnected to what's going on, but the timing wasn't on purpose," said Powell, associate professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature.

Well, it was brilliant timing nonetheless Dr. Powell, thank you!
"What's different today than in November?" Mader said. "I think the timing of this vote is suspect. Why rescind the approval this week?"
Truth responsds: Dear Lisa, what's different between today and November 2003 is that today people are finally taking a good hard look at Angie's credentials and are finding them lacking. Bottom line, the woman has never had tenure at any four-year university. Ever. What she had was tenure at a COMMUNITY COLLEGE with a "special dispensation" to say that she was tenured at UK (though she NEVER went through the tenure and promotion process at UK and has said so herself).
Mader said it appears there is a campaign against Dvorak which she said is "very misdirected and inappropriate in light of the fact that the allegations against her proved to be false."
Truth responds: the only campaign against Dvorak is the one the Dome has created. Dvorak has "pumped up" her CV so much that it has finally burst. The allegations against her have NOT been proven false; quite to the contrary, they have been proven true.

There was an earlier FireShelby board discussion of Dvorak teaching a graduate level grant writing class last fall. IF she was the official professor of record, how was this allowed if the class started in August 2003 and she wasn't approved for graduate faculty status until November 2003?

I did some checking on USM's website. Angie is listed in the 2004-2005 Undergraduate Bulletin under faculty, but not in the 2003-2004 Graduate Bulletin (they don't have a link to the 2004-2005 version of the Grad Bulletin there). It does refer to her as Googler states above. Here's the link:

Notice, too, that the fax date on the proof copy is 2/26/04...well after they knew that her status as "tenured professor" was in question.
