Fos, Pete < 1. named Dean of the College of Health at USM in April of 2004; 2. appears to be the product of a Thames job search after Joan Exline was "eliminated" from contention in March/April of 2004, and after rumored plans to install first daughter Dana Thames became untenable (given the many crises embroiling USM’s central administration).


14-0 < unanimous vote by USM’s Graduate Council to rescind the graduate faculty credential of Angeline Dvorak (vote taken on 4/26/04).


Graduate Council < 1. faculty governance body at USM responsible for determining graduate faculty credentials of USM faculty; 2. voted 14-0 to rescind Angeline Dvorak’s graduate faculty status at USM (on 4/26/04) on the grounds that she did not hold a tenure track appointment; 3. Council’s report is said to have indicated that Dvorak had submitted a faulty application, indicating tenure track status, the previous August (of 2003).


open door policy < 1. stated policy of Shelby Thames to be receptive at any time to students, faculty or staff visitors who desire to discuss any/all issues concerning USM; 2. as some have suggested, policy thwarted by the fact that, while his door may be open, his mind is closed.


Powell, William < 1. Associate Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature at USM; 2. product of a national job search; 3. chaired the Credentials Committee of USM’s Graduate Council looking into Angeline Dvorak’s graduate faculty credentials in the Spring of 2004 (see also 14-0).


17 days < 1. length of time it took Ken Malone to answer William Powell’s question: does Angeline Dvorak hold a tenure track position at USM? (see also 14-0); 2. question was posed by Powell on March 22 (2004) and answered (via e-mail) by Malone (with a "no sir-ree-bob") on April 7 (2004).


Wallace, Ann < 1. Professor of English at USM, and product of a national job search; 2. has written two very eloquent letters to the editor of The Student Printz concerning the troubled Thames administration; 3. on 4/27/04, Wallace wrote that Shelby Thames ". . . doesn’t seem to know what every student knows: you can’t cover ignorance and shallow thinking with bravado and empty words."
