Ha!  Yours is no longer an opposing view; it's a losing view.

Have fun playing with this guy, Fire Shelby members.  He obviously has nothing better to do--he's in denial.  Bat him about a little--it's fine with me!!

Wait and see FS.  You'll see that I am right.

Yippee, do you not understand that even if you are right, the university is far more damaged than if you are wrong? Can you not see how prospective faculty will view this?

Ram,

Yes, I am concerned about the ramifications to the university regardless of how this had come out.  But I am also concerned about the impact on the university if nothing was done about this travesty.

Recall how much free speech has gone on about this matter.  Nowhere but America could we have that.  But you can't just violate the law and trample on someone's rights to ruin their career.  There are limits.

Can't figure out what you are trying to say with the above . . . . I think this "had" come out the way it will. None of what you said made any kind of academic sense to me.

Yes, I agree...there are limits.  And Thames overstepped them.

Glamser and Stringer did not lose.  In a case like this, when a judge halts a proceeding without any cross examination, it means that he sees the "prosecution" has no case and that to continue would do damage to all involved.

Yes, you can't just trample on someone's rights, call them a criminal, bait them in the media, smear their name in public over NOTHING...Yes, Yippee, we finally agree on something!

Hey, why don't you go to the "Keep Shelby"  website and celebrate with all 32 of yourselves while you still can. The bad news will be hitting you all soon enough.

Why would G&S resign and collect retirement when they already had that option? Even a bad lawyer would not advise a client to take that lose-lose deal. Since the discussions after luch were intiated by Judge Anderson, the issue had to do with the prosecution since the defense had not yet presented.

The most chilling part of this is the monitoring of emails at the server level by ITECH. What other faculty members are currently having their email monitored by ITECH at the server level?

Yippie--

You are either (a) directly or indirectly, one of the parties "priviledged" to the actual results of the "in camera" proceedings; or (b) just making wild guesses like the rest of us.  If the former, you apparently feel justified in breaching the confidentiality that is limiting others from disclosing the results of the deliberations.  That makes some of your pontificating seem just a tad hypocritical.  If the latter, guess away with the rest of us, but that virtue you parade should compel you to fess up.

Your comment about "free speech" is a diversion.  Yep, this is the greatest country in the history of the world. We can all salute and wave the flag. But that has nothing to do with the merits of this matter. If ruined careers are at issue, that's what civil action is all about, as Dr. Dvorak has implied. I can identify several potential plaintiffs here, counselor, not just the one.

I'm not sure what "travesty" it is to which you refer. (Heck, I wasn't even sure what it meant; I had to look it up.)  If I start looking for "grotesque imitations" in this fiasco, there is just one person that immediately comes to my mind.

Yours too, huh?

Procedurally (as others have pointed out), when the prosecution rests, the defense gets to cross, then put on its case.  That is general legal procedure and basic fairness. The fact that none of that happened might mean that Drs. Stringer and Glamser were just scared spitless by hearing Dr. Thames say the same durn things they've been hearing him say for a month.  Or it might mean that Judge Anderson decided that everything Dr. Thames said, even if taken as absolutely true, did not warrant the action he took.  Looks like we (the rest of us, at least) will have to wait a few days to hear from a credible source.  But you know what?

If you are right, the troubles are not over; I suspect they are just beginning.
