I'm sickened by the whole affair no matter the outcome. I will be less bothered if GS emerges with a wad of cash and an apology. Still, the whole things stinks.

The arrogance of a president (who must think he rules the world) to fire tenured faculty because he is threatened by private communications in their emails and then to claim that these faculty are somehow dishonest is beyond absurd. I cannot imagine an outcome that will restore everything SFT has stolen from this institution and these particular faculty members.  Public apologies cannot undo the slanders and $$$ cannot set right the injustice. I imagine it could soften things, but it cannot make it right. Worse still, the cost comes at the expense of the university, the faculty, and the students, not SFT. In a just world, SFT would get to pay personally for his damages, and then get to spend an extra century or two on the newly-opened tenth-ring of hell, reserved for academics and administrators who scorn the truth and education but lead unsuspecting followers into error in the name of education.

If the eventual settlement involves non-disclosure, I certainly hope that the new buildings named after Stringer and Glamser are evidence enough of SFT's wrongdoings so that his successor won't try the same thing in a year or two. If people acquiesce to this level of abuse and let this pass quietly, we all share some of the blame.

I am waiting to see the final outcome, but until I do I will remain guarded. The fact that some "yippee" or two might think SFT looks good today from his testimony is cause enough to be cautious.  After all, some body (IHL) put SFT in power to begin with (in spite of plenty of evidence to suggest that he was ill-equipped for the job), and yippee's vote counts as much as the next guy's at the polls of public opinion.  Whatever the outcome, I hope the truth is obvious to all by the end.

Just pondering the outcomes...
