REQUEST FOR DONATIONS TO THE LEGAL DEFENSE FUND: ANNOUNCEMENT OF GLAMSER/STRINGER AAUP SCHOLARSHIP
Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer are very grateful for the many generous contributions to their legal defense fund. Whether you have contributed $5 or $500, every bit has helped. They deeply appreciate your support.
Frank and Gary accumulated $40,000 in legal fees during their battle against Shelby Thames, whose state-funded legal team was provided free and clear to him by the state college board. So far, donations to the Legal Defense Fund have totaled $30,000. They have $10,000 in outstanding debt that must be paid, all to defend themselves from a very questionable attack from Thames.
To show their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received—from across the state AND the nation--Frank and Gary would like to endow an undergraduate scholarship for USM students. Here’s the plan: together they will match dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000, every donation that arrives. For example, if you send in a check for $50 to the Legal Defense Fund, Frank and Gary each will give $25 to the scholarship fund.
The professors are concerned that so many people have given so repeatedly and generously, and they don’t want to ask them to give again. Nor do they want to burden students, who are on very tight budgets, with their request. They specifically ask that faculty members and people in the USM community who haven’t donated consider doing so now. This is your opportunity to assist two VERY worthy causes. Your donation will enable the profs to pay off their legal fees, and their endowment will enable a student to attend college without financial worry. It’s a win-win arrangement!
The proposed name for the endowment will be the Glamser/Stringer AAUP Scholarship. They would like to commemorate the USM AAUP with the scholarship title because of its members’ tireless efforts throughout this whole ordeal. Any donations beyond the $10,000 outstanding debt will go into the scholarship fund.
If you haven’t donated yet, please consider doing so. You may send your check to:

Thanks, Fire. You have a small typo. We are behind $10,000 in our legal expenses. As you said, Gary and I wish to put $10,000 dollars of our personal funds into endowing an undergraduate scholarship. We thought up the idea when we thought we had our expenses covered, but this last week of preparation was intense and expensive. Those of you who heard the hearings know we coverd all the bases.
We also thought the names Glamser, Stringer, and AAUP should be evident on campus for awhile.

Oops...sorry about that, Dr. Glamser. That was a pretty significant typo. Thanks for the correction.
