"...........though Newton, our staunchest supported, is quoted on TV news as saying she "doesn't know how the College Board can help solve the problem, but hopes Dr. Thames will be involved in the healing process." This from the same board member who has heretofore been (politely) asking for Shelby's scalp. If you think we haven't lost ground you need your scalp examined. ..
If this does not tell us that USM lost and the professors lost and that there is NO tenure anymore at USM and that mass firings will now commence,
let he or she cast the first snowball.
I am disappointed in Virginia. We have more than "lost ground." I hope that was lifted out of context but it sure sounds like USM's only hope, her only defender has caved in. How can she stand by and say that. Thames is obviously in office now with impunity, reinvigorated to fire whom ever he please for no cause at all. I guess Virginia Newton just gave up being the sole surviving "minority." Whitten sure isn't USM's friend.
We are screwed. USM profs have no academic freedom now Mr. Campbell...........Their computers are fee to be monitored 24 hours a day at will. They have to watch everything they say or do in and out of class.
I would imagine we will see that "zero detectable level" alcohol policy come back now. Hanbury is the official USM attorney.

I saw her on both the 6:00 and 10:00 news in a clip where she basically said that the no confidence vote meant that things cannot continue as they are. She is still trying to help us.
"At this time, we're glad to have the settlement, but I'm still deeply disturbed by the turmoil," said Virginia Shanteau Newton, who represents Gulfport. "It's something that will take a great deal of time to resolve.
"Since I've been on the board, we've not had a vote of no-confidence of that magnitude," she added. "I hope (Thames) sees the message from the vote of no confidence."
I'm confused. Seems like the no confidence vote would mean more the BOARD. How did they handle gitting rid of the president of the W? ST was not even given a slap on the wrist -- it seems -- and the only reason he looked ****y at the hearing is because he didn't get to completely fire G&S.
After his ridiculous testimony, they should do more than hint that he needs to listen to the faculty. There is no more relationship between ST and faculty. We cannot heal the rift as long as this administration is in place.
That's the thing that gets me too... Can't people in positions of power understand that there is no possibility of "healing" at this point? The very idea that it is possible is outrageous, while USM is still under the thumb of the present administration. I will never be able to fathom how ST can actually enjoy the job he has before him now... it's as if he loves the thrill of aiming the ship at iceburgs.
