When the reality of the destruction of USM nursing

hits this young man, I will offer him little pity:

From the Hattiesburg American today:

Jones County Junior College nursing student Jason Smith, 24, places responsibility for healing squarely on the USM faculty.

"I think the professors would have to get together and say they're going to work with (Thames) instead of hate him," Smith said. "I think they have a general consensus that they're going to hate him and they're not going to go along with anything he does."

Smith, who plans to transfer to USM next semester, describes himself as a Thames supporter.

"I believe that Dr. Thames has done a lot for the university and he bleeds black and gold," he said. "He's great for the university and he's a guy that gets things done.

"Sometimes when you get things done the way he does, people don't like it because he doesn't sit around in a committee and talk about things. He just does," Smith added.

It kind of astounds me, the rhetoric that comes out of some Thames supporters' mouths. There seems to be a common theme connecting it all; the need for an authoritarian father figure and a distain for a democracy, for that is what "sitting around in a committee and talking about things" is. Many other times have foolish people cried for the strong man, and almost always they have ended in grief, done in by the same strong man whom they advocated... because he has no need to hear their cries... because he dosen't believe in committees.

quote: Jason is not a nursing student at JCJC. He is in pre-nursing(youknow,the basics). So either he is lieing, Janet Braswell of the American is or it's just a"typo". You can call the JCJC AD Nursing Dept @ 477-4099 to verify his status which HE IS NOT IN THE PROGRAM. Maybe he is trying to "brown nose" his way to USM? Something to consider. Shelby, don't stop too quick 'cause Jason is behind you all the way!

I wish they lead into the quote by saying, "We had to go to a different college to find a student willing to make a quote for us in support of Dr. Thames"
