Just a little semi-off topic thread while we wait.  I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet.  If they have, I apologize.  I found it really interesting (though not directly relevant to the current goals of this message board).

Does anybody remember the little boy who had has arm bitten off by a shark a couple of years ago down in Pensacola?  His name is Jesse Arbogast.  His uncle is Vance Flosenzier.  That HAS to be the same Vance Flosenzier that the Faculty Senate asks about (along with Hadden, Goff, Harbury, et al.) in the April 26th letter.  That's the new "Director of Process Technology" (whatever that is) in Economic Development.  I mean, how many Vance Flosenziers can there be?

Depending on which story you believe, Vance Flosenzier was either the heroic uncle who dragged the shark out of the water and saved the boy's arm.  OR, Uncle Vance was fishing with CHUM for sharks and thus caused the whole disaster in the first place.

Here's a favorable story on Uncle Vance... http://espn.go.com/outdoors/general/news/2001/0710/1224495.html

Here is a less favorable treatment of Uncle Vance... http://www2.roanoke.com/columnists/whited/2999.html

Hey! I thought Shelby & all those hard-working "real" professors in the Department of Coatings, Paint & Plastics were the ones bringing in all those big bucks. Now we find out it's a bunch of ghost writers.

Next thing, we'll find out that James Michener & Stephen King don't really write their own books

do you really think that people who use phrases like "continuous and contiguous" could write their own grant proposal? It take ENGLISH students/professors to do it.

Go, truth/AH!

Yeah, Diana's job title makes sense.  But what the heck is a Director of Process Technology?

Re-reading my original post, I should say that I think Uncle Vance was probably a good guy in the shark incident.  Even the less flattering article strongly argues that.  I didn't intend to be quite that much of a muck-raker (and I didn't mean for that last link to be in bold).  I just thought it was interesting item while we waited for the 10:30 show on WLOX...which is the real story.

My God.  Klumb has "unwavering" support for Thames, refers to tenured profs as the "tenure club" and cites money money money problems.  More than ever State and Ole Miss should be concerned about what's happening at USM.  Add all of that up, and to me the intentions of the IHL are clear.

Yep, I can't tell you how many Polymer Science profs I had coming to me to "help" them with their own writing when I was writing grants for the dept.  They can do science, but most can't do complete sentences if their life depended on it...just bullet points.
