I went back through the last ten pages of messages on this board, looking for the results of the several recent polls that have been conducted by MS media about the crisis at USM.  Below is what I found, incomplete as it is; if anyone can supplement this report, I'd appreciate it.

=============================================

WDAM POLL QUESTION: "WHO CAME OUT AHEAD IN THE SETTLEMENT, SFT OR THE PROFESSORS?"  RESULTS AS OF 11 P.M., WEDNESDAY, MAY 5: SFT 38%; PROFESSORS: 38%; IT WAS A DRAW: 24%.

=================================

POLL IN THE HATTIESBURG AMERICAN, FIRST WEEK IN MAY: Do you think the relationship between the administration and faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi will improve now that the case involving professors Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer has been resolved?

LAST REPORTED RESULTS: Yes 10.9% No 89.1% Total Votes: 605

==========================

WLOX POLL, FIRST WEEK IN MAY:

Last result reported on this message board was "75% for 'go.'"  Does anyone remember the exact question?  I am assuming that it was something along the lines of "Should SFT go or stay?"

Thanks, Cindy!  I was just about to post those results myself.  We now have several bits of poll data to use in writing to the IHL.  Every relevant poll so far shows overwhelming (at least 75% in each instance) disapproval of (or misgivings about) the Thames administration.  We should make use of this information.

A friend recently sent this note to the IHL; I asked him if I could post it here, in the hope that it might inspire similar messages to the IHL board.

Dear Ms. Sharpe,

I have been keeping tabs on recent media polls regarding the crisis at USM.  I hope you will share with the IHL board members the results I am about to report.

* An online poll conducted by The Hattiesburg American in the first week of May asked the following question: "Do you think the relationship between the administration and faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi will improve now that the case involving professors Frank Glamser and Gary Stringer has been resolved?"  The last reported results I could find were as follows: Yes 10.9% No 89.1% Total Votes: 605

* A poll conducted by WDAM in the first week of May asked whether President Thames should stay or go.  The last reported results I could find showed 75% in favor of the latter option.

* An online poll conducted by The Hattiesburg American on May 5 asked, "Do you have confidence in University of Southern Mississippi President Shelby Thames’ ability to lead USM?" As of the very beginning of May 6, the results of this poll were 19.5% voting yes and 80.5 voting no, with 800 total votes.

Obviously these polls are not scientific, but neither are they unimportant.  They suggest the tremendous misgivings many people feel about the what has been happening at USM in the past few months and years.  I urge the IHL in the strongest possible terms to heed these misgivings and to meet as soon as possible to deal with the problems at USM.

Respectfully yours,

Thanks for the guidelines. I agree, we should be using this to our advantage. The HA poll is especially telling, since there are only 650 faculty, no one can dare say that the profs are jamming the polls. I am composing my email right now!

Just to calrify: The poll asking whether Shelboo should stay or go was through WLOX, not WDAM.

Happy Writing, everyone!

Check those numbers. I know it's the HA, but still it shouldn't total over 100%.

89.9 should be 80.9 -- just a typo!
